What program do you use to get Twitter followers?

I used one successfully for about four months, although a few months ago it was sold and has been minimally supported, as well as major bugs making it almost not worth the added headaches to use.

What do you use, and how effective has it been for you?

I need one that allows you to follow followers, and I would be interested in hearing how well any web-based programs you use are.

Thank you,
Dan

Twollo looks like it would be helpful to use with something else, although it's expensive relative to software you buy once. It says it has a free version and instructs people to log-in, although I did not find the link to get that.

Thank you, I only looked at it about five minutes - when the software I had liked so much was working well.

Seems like a good time to bring it out and begin using it :-)

The best and most underrated... nothing!

I'm jaded! Doesn't anybody want to earn anything anymore? I guess not; it's like the Twitter Stimulus Program or something. People are like: gimmie, gimmie, gimmie. More proof our society has lost it's finesse. How about using your own creativity to build up a loyal following?

Yeah, maybe there's some redeeming qualities to some of these Twitter apps, I don't know. Just doesn't sound very Warrior-like to me.

I've used desktop programs before, like TweetDeck and recently am looking at monitter.com which is very cool. You can keyword search in "real time" in your niche area. The downside is you follow individually.

With that said though, I find following only those with high count and relevant to my niche a better way than aimlessly following anyone and everyone.

    Hope that helps!

I find that if you follow anyone who is following a substantial amount of people useless as they will get too many tweets to ever see yours unless you are tweeting often and then you are a spammer.

Really folks if someone is following a thousand people do you really think your 2-3 tweets a day will ever get read? I don't think so... I find twitter pretty much useless for making sales.

You might get lots of clicks but thats it. I got 3000 clicks to ClickBank and not 1 sale.

Still it can be useful in other ways,

Hey...just a note to all those that say you HAVE to work twitter manually...be sure you are inviting visitors to your site ONE BY ONE...or else you risk being a hypocrite...lol I am being a smarta$$ of course...but looking at ways to use Twitter as an automatic marketing tool is smart business. EVERYTHING in the world becomes automated eventually. Otherwise, all companies would be run by ONE person, who does everything. Automation is progress. If you dig manual labor, so be it...personally, I hate Twitter...can't stand to be on there for a few minutes...but if I found software that would help make the process more productive and profitable for my business, then why not roll with it?

Anyways, I am looking to have one of my developers create one with all the bells and whistles...we'll see what happens...good luck to all!

John, the software you created sounds great, along with the one that extracts followers you can then follow.

Each blog post I make is automatically turned into a tweet, which does get clicks.

My regular tweets are quotes of interest to the people I'm following, and they get retweet usually 5-7 or more times, so people are seeing them.

    Warmly,

Yeah I have a list of qoutes and jokes that I tweet. All I have to do is create a text file with whatever I want to tweet then load it into my software and then set the time frequency and let it run.

I do same thing with followers. I find someone in my niche that has a large following and then extract their followers and then add them using my program. Since I already hit the 2000 limit I can only add a several hundred at a time which is cool. I have over 5K following, just wish they were buyers lol

If you have a blog where you might promote inspirational (or funny) products or memberships or affiliate programs, they might respond to that.

If you ever decide to share or sell your program, I'd love to betatest it.

One feature I like about the software I have been using is the picture and profile of the followers of the person I'm following scroll through the screen as it's following them. Almost every day I find new people in my market to follow followers from.

I am not sure if I want to sell it as its not as sophisticated as those being sold or even. When I started doing it, it was more for me than selling and I just went from doing DM to adding followers to auto posting. My friend said to sell it for around $10-$20 but I never made up my mine.

I may put together a version and have a few warriors test it. Right now I use it for auto posting and adding followers.

Ive got about that spread over a few niches. Even have some famous people that only follow 40-50 people following some of my accounts. Dunno why, I am certainly not tweeting anything profound. Lol. It may help something go viral when the time comes, I hope (still working on it, big product so may take another year at least. My luck, Twitter will fold before then.)

As a day to day traffic mover, other then sending to an interesting blog post, the time isn't worth the money it makes. Again, unless you can eventually interest someone with 1,000,000 followers in a project eventually. At this point, it's a crap shoot.

At the numbers I have, I found if I do nothing, (not even tweet) I gain about 1,000 followers a day from people that just follow me. Half of which are spammers usually. By the time I am ready to have this particular product ready, I'll probably have a million followers. Lol.

    Hi Jbode,

Thanks for recommending Tweet Elite Pro. That looks set and forget. Is it really?

When I follow people in my niche who have 10,000-60,000 followers, I used to be able to follow 1,000 in a day, the Twitter limit.

Yet that's rare now, and I've reached the limit (with the bugs and false follows and problems with the software) anywhere from 567 to it's rare to go 900 or more.

I would be interested in how many followers Tweet Elite Pro can follow in a day, and does it really do this without a lot of monitoring?

For example I understand the Twitter API being shall we say tenuous, and it's often *dozens* of times I have to click the prompt after "whoops, something happened".

Also, with Tweet Elite Pro, can you set the following limits, for example I follow 125 and then pause for 2 minutes (and the program makes me click OK to continue that process, which I've asked the developer to remove that "feature").

I would appreciate your feedback on these issues.

    Thanks!

    Warmly,
    Dan

    Hi Joe R.,

No, I have not used TweetAdder. I'm using Hot Twitter Spy. I may be starting to work with its flaws and bugs, as well as I can.

For example I'm learning it seems to work fine until after following about 567-700 or so before getting stuck and acting as thought it's following the same people over and over on the same page, and after I catch it, and it appears as though it's continuing to follow more people, it seems to really be following no one else. Although if I move to the next person I want to follow followers of, it seems to really be doing that then.

(Although, as you can imagine, having the program not fail these ways would be about 100 times more effective - or using a program that does work right.)

I'll look at TweetAdder. Another Warrior had a WSO for a web-based program that looked interesting. I'm not sure about his customer service (or quality of the script) because he did not follow through on something he told me he would do and seemed to disappear after that.

    Warmly,
    Dan

I see everybody trying to build huge twitter following but the problem with that is of those who are following you how many actually read your stuff...

Once anyone who is following over 100-200 and unless those are personal friends they are going to be inundated with so many tweets that unless your tweet happens to be on the main page at the time they are reading your tweet will be lost.

This is the main problem I see with using twitter and having people follow you and hundreds of others. The number of tweets being posted is so overwhelming that I think its almost a lost cause..

I also find that most tweeter are just clickers and not buyers. Just my observation ever being on twitter and building a following of 5K.

I even created my on twitter software that I don't even use :-(

I agree Twitter followers are being barraged by a ton of marketing messages... which is why it makes sense as a lead generator rather than trying to get sales directly. Get them on your list with a free, irresistible offer. And don't forget people are searching Twitter as well, so use good keywords and provide valuable solutions.

    Hi Ed,

Please say more. Is there a posted list to know what they consider spam apps? As others have expressed, Twitter may not openly welcome any auto-follow apps. I'm not sure what that might mean, if anything, to be on such a list.

For example I've used a program to add followers just about every day over the last probably six months or more, until I hit the Twitter limit. And I don't post crap (except for when an errant auto-follower service I test does that without my permission) - so I add value to Twitter, which they support.

I imagine it's like the beer commercials: Drink responsibly. :-)

Good tip. I have used that program successfully for about two or three months. It works great!

By the way, today was a first. The program I have been using, with time consuming bugs over the last two months - today it got stuck in the "following loop" as it has the last three or four or more times I've used it.

And this time the repeating pattern it got stuck in included - following me - over and over again (obviously I shouldn't be able to follow myself even one time, much less several ;-)

    Why not follow by hand?

*Everyone* who has their account set to autofollow you back is NOT reading your tweets. Ever.

    So what's the benefit?
To make it look like you have a lot of followers?
That game ended a year ago.
I've blocked a ton of spammers and yet have a decent number of
    REAL followers.

    Twitter is an engagement opportunity.

Your minisites, parked pages, etc don't require your
    attention and curation.
So why not make Twitter the place you engage?
If you're good, you can link to your other properties.

Sure, as usual, IMers have had some success with automation.
It's often dirtier than they admit here.
But year after year they ruin each new opportunity that comes along.

Well Twitter, Inc isn't going to let successes like
Small Businesses on Twitter - Restaurants, Retailers, Travel Services, and more - OPEN Forum Pulse

be ruined by everyone who wants to spray links to their
"How to get more sex" ebook.

But there's a bigger question here: Are you a spammer, running a garbage site,
or are you an entrepreneur? A businessman or woman?

If you're proud of what you do, then engage personally.

    Hi Ed,

I'm not sure you're implying your approach to Twitter is the only effective way to use it, although that would be one possible interpretation. Just as others have made blanket statements condemning all programs that in my mind are tools to help one's business grow.

Thank you for letting me know. I only use the automation to follow and unfollow, not to schedule tweets. I want people to know I'm real and that everything that comes from me is real (except when a "service" does an unauthorized auto-tweet).

I can appreciate your perspective. I know some experts who agree with that.

    Hi Ed,

I see you do speak from experience. And I thank you for teaching a perspective I think many marketers would do well to apply - using Twitter as the place they get to know people, in their niche, their subscribers, their customers, people interested in them and potentially being their customers.

Seeing your profile makes me want to know how you got your followers. And what criteria do you use when deciding whether to follow someone?

I am glad you took the time to post in here.

      Sorry Dan
I lost track of this thread.
My situation is atypical (though I will say I've never used
any software to get followers, or any system for that matter).

Word of mouth from heavy hitters.
But I have taught many friends who have thousands of followers
by approaching Twitter as a friend. Literally a mindset of
sharing other people (who have integrity), more than you promote yourself.

        Hi Ed,

I like that a lot. (I bet your screen capture video or regular video or report would do well on the forum, or maybe I should interview you ... seems your message would be welcome and appreciated here.)

If I understand what you're saying, I get the impression you're treating your Twitter account as successful marketers treat their blogs, as in "hey, I found something pretty cool I wanted to share with you".

Thank you for sharing. A few years ago I planned to create a product that taught what I called "Give to Give Marketing" where the purpose is not what you get back, the purpose is just to give because you feel inspired to share, because you can help others, or because it's the right thing to do.

I get the feeling that may be part of your success.

        Warmly,
        Dan

Twitter is an effective tool to networking and marketing. But without automation, we will spent hours infront of our PC.

I just started with humming bird 3 days ago and its awesome. I wish it was a bit faster but it works well you can leave it run in the background while you do other stuff and it takes are of it all with a click of a button.

If you value your Twitter account,
realize that Hummingbird is totally against their TOS.

I saw a good friend get canned, after the owner of Hummingbird
lied right to him to get the sale.

It's too bad too because he was an honest dude,
who thought he had checked first.
It took 3 months to get reinstated and he lost 1,000 natural followers.

As a serious marketer in twitter, I built and using my own software. I tried using others but many of them are abusing the twitter API which will lead my account banned.
