Question for Micro Niche Finder users

I typed in a phrase in MNF and got a zero for Strength of Competition (SOC) and yet when I do an SEO competition in Market Samurai I see there is no way to compete with the top sites. PR 5s with thousands of back links for domain AND pages. What's the deal with MNF?

Billy - just found your post .... and I need to say I have had the exact same question for the past few months. I wish you had some more feedback to help uncover the answer.

I have come to trust the MOB function from MNF -- more than SOC

I use MNF almost daily. SOC is giving you the big picture, not the Top 10 competition. So yeah, sometimes you'll get a low SOC score but find that the Top 10 is still tough to crack. I use MNF to do preliminary keyword research, then use my own instincts after a Google search, looking at certain aspects of the Top 10. I've passed on many SOC low scores for this very reason. MOB is good, too, but likewise not the end-all be-all, because it's only giving you the median (middle) score, not a really true picture of backlinks and competition. Still, I like it for the speed and the ability to get an initial idea of a keyword's viability. You just don't want to use it exclusively or you might be disappointed more often than not.

Yes, the traffic light is tied to SOC

I tend to consider sites with green lights, then narrow my search based upon low MOB ratings

I use it similar to the way Zeus66 does. I'll take the good keywords it finds and do a little extra research on them. I do like the "brainstorm" feature. It comes up with stuff I'd never think of.

I, too, use MNF frequently. Yours is a good question. I agree with Zeus.

This reminds me of the age old question about which service should we believe about the number of searches. After all is said and done, I tend to trust Google Search Tool more than the others for sheer numbers. I like Zeus's comment about going with your instincts too.

What I'd love to hear is how you guys do your backlink work after you set up your sites.

The problem is MOB shows a small number of BLs needed when there is a low SOC. Both are wrong! I'm thinking MNF is a piece of crap.
