People Buy My Products From Their Cell Phone (I Love Internet Marketing)

I just realized that I get a few sales every week
from people's cell phones!

I didn't realize it until I kept checking the sales
and I kept seeing "Mobile-User" And I didn't
know what that meant.

Then I found out it means someone used
the mobile version of the shopping cart.

Amazing times we live in!

So I went through one of the funnels myself on
my Iphone. and realized what happens

I send out a broadcats and it goes right to their
cell Phone.

They click the link in the email from their phone.

It takes them to my sales letter.

And then they click the buy button and it takes
them to the mobile checkout (Which was created
for mobile users).

Now we are optimizing every sales letter
to be mobile friendly. That means where
we use video we have to replace it with
sales text for mobile users who can't view it.

10 years ago could you have imagined that?

Hey Daniel...I don't think he was just promoting his signature, but was looking for how you got them to buy through their phone.

Basically, what kind of site do you have where they can buy on their phones or do you market to mobile users somehow?

I think the idea of someone buying a product through a phone is still fairly new, even to us Warriors.

I do tons of browsing on my iPhone. Especially at night when I'm winding down.

I find most website do not cater to the iPhone...and none have iPhone-compatible videos to watch. What a shame.

This is indeed a huge market.

Jan. 2009: AT&T says it activated more than 4 million iPhone 3Gs in the previous six months. In that period, Apple had sold 11.25 million iPhones. Again, AT&T's activations represent about 35% of the total.

    Hi Dan,

Is your niche a tech savvy niche out of interest? I wonder how many different demographics now use mobiles to surf these days...I'm thinking this is a significant trend due to mobiles being so darn popular these days.

    Cool times indeed!

Great idea and i hope it kicks off and works for your personally.

If it's as good as you think it might be then make it a USP and ensure you get broadcast for your new USP as much as possible. I'm thinking go mobile then go to the nearst high traffic website or magazine that will get your sites in front of the right audience.

    Daniel,

Congrats on the mobile conversions. As per the videos that your site may offer for visitors to see, it would be a wonderful idea to convert your vids to either 3gp and mp4 files for mobile viewing. Hope this helps and keep us updated on your mobile success.

I do lots on my phone and i get ticked off when i can't see a video on a sales page or an educational video. Cell phones should be improved when it comes to this. But yeah i've also bought something straight from my cell phone. It's great.

It opens the conversation - what does YOUR site look like on a mobile phone?

    Congrats on your success Daniel.

For the rest of us, visit your web site on your phone. If you can't find a teenager somewhere, they sure can. Can you actually *use* the site? If not, well...

My cell phone is circa 2005 so I don't buy anything on my cell but I was shocked by the amount of people who came to some of my Amazon websites and appeared to buy from their phones. I never realized how many people shopped on their cell phones because it's not something I'd ever do.

If you're planning to target the cellphone market, you definitely have to test your landing pages to make sure they load properly, and flash videos are a big no-no (something a lot of us IMers like to use!) What I like to do is test them out on my iPod touch - there's a tip for people without iPhones, get an iPod touch (which is relatively cheap at about $200 without any monthly fees), and you'll be able to see how your ads/landing pages appear on an iPhone.

It is amazing how things can look so much different on an itouch ... uses safari browser. Flash and on page video is out.

Apple for some reason has obstinately refused to enable flash video on the iPod touch or the iPhone, and they seem to be standing firm on this issue. This means any ads and webpages will have to be tailored specifically for these machines, and you probably need to also come out with a different version for regular phones with web browsers, to account for the decreased screen sizes on them.

Things are going to get even more complicated, as Google's new phone (the Nexus One) is supposed to be able to handle full flash videos and the resolution is far beyond that of an iPhone's (the Nexus one has 800X840 resolution), so it's more like a tiny notebook than a phone.

      Thanks for this great info...

I've never tried to create a page specifically for a mobile phone user...but it could be quite fun and interesting.

Does anyone know if there is a good script that can detect a mobile user and serve them a different "mobile enhanced" version of a page?

Maybe serve them different videos, based on the mobile phone device they are using. (Browser detection?)

      Thanks!

If you head to GoDaddy / Wild West's Website Tonight packages, they have mobi templates you can use in a few quick clicks. Here's an example on one of my main company sites:

(note: it color-coordinates with the rest of our site - - and you can change that, too)

    Hi Jack,

In reference to your question in reference to a browser detection service for your site I would recommend Andy Moore's Detect Mobile Browsers code. There is also Device Atlas provided by mtld the owners of the .mobi tld. Hope this helps. If working with worpress there is also a couple of other worpress mobile plugins available.

That's really amazing and intriguing indeed, Daniel.

Just like Rod, I think all of this is only going to see a rise in the future as the Internet reaches all multimedia and other devices that we have today.

Mobile phones are just the tip of the iceberg that is to reveal itself.

    Good on ya', mate!

Very cool. I did a lot of work with newsletters and segmenting, and it's amazing how small tweaks can make conversions skyrocket. Very cool to experiment with this stuff, especially when the newsletter reaches hundreds of thousands of people who are engaged.
