What sells more? Specific or general info products?

I'm looking into creating an information product. I've come across conflicting info.

Some experts advise to create a specific product like "How to write an article in 9 minutes." This is instantly believable and talks to the people who really need it.

Others say to go as broad as possible like "My Weird Method to Make Money Online". It has much wider appeal and it will get more traction with affiliates etc.

What do you think?

As someone who likes to window shop online, I prefer products with all the specifics laid down. If the product description is incomplete, it's an automatic pass for me.

In your case, the title is an elevator pitch; make or break.

It depends on the audience demographics you are targeting and marketing to.

After you figure out who you are selling to, you make the headline specific to them.

Any specifics in a headline help.

And you can add specifics in a headline that still have broad appeal.

"How To Write An Article In 9 Minutes That Will Make Sales Today" is specific, but has a broad appeal.

My way of writing headlines is to appear to be appealing to a specific audience, but really being very inclusive".

For example "Do you feel tired after only 4 hours at work?" or "12 Minutes A Day Brings In An Extra $583 A Month. Here's How"

They are very specific, but really appeal to most people.

You can even us Barnum Statements that sound like they only apply to you, but really apply to everyone. It's what psychics use for cold readings.

What is cool is how a glossary of generally enticin' phrasin' an' strategies orbits most particulahs.

So while your aim gotta be pinpoint, you can reap plenty from the blast radius.

Great advice from Jamell and Claude.

Something else to consider is that you may have a greater chance of success if you're providing for a smaller Niche/Market. For example with a general info-product about "Making Money Online"/MMO ... You're competing with a lot of People/Marketers ― some of the most successful in The World.

However ... With a more Niche product ― there's less competition.

    Just my 2C.

    P.S.
If you do decide on the MMO Market, then definitely find a way to differentiate yourself. Essentially to answer your question ― for an Entrepreneur starting out ― I would choose a more specific Product/Niche.

it all comes down to knowing your customer and then writing copy that appeals to them.

And also on how hot/cold your traffic is i.e. where it's coming from. A generic ad would need a generic landing page, specific ad - specific copy on landing page.

Hope this helps. Once I get an audience that knows me I will always sell specific products because I don't like to sell vague 'make money online' methods.

      Great insights above.

Also if you are listbuiling your Freebie can laser in on a specific painpoint or relevant goodie and inside you subtly introduce your paid offer an how an why it would be perfect for what they are trying to ultimately achieve.

I would say that this is something that highly depends on the niche and theme of your texts and articles, as well on the audience that you are targeting. Personally, I would always be more interested to read something like How to write article in 9 minutes, as this is like a real tutorial and this can provide me real knowledge and help me save time and make my life much easier.

On the other hand, titles like My weird method for earning money can even look spammy at some point, it doesn't sound like something I would rely on, it can be interesting but it also can be just a self promotion that doesn't give anything valuable for the readers. Sometimes, the best thing is to text various approaches and see what is working the best for your exact audience.

I think you can price a specific info product higher than a general one.

"How to make an extra $2000 a month in your landscaping business" will more than likely sell faster (and at a higher price) than "How to make an extra $2000 a month in your business".

It's more niche specific. And shouldn't you always find the niche before you find the product? Specifics win.

Over and over again, yes. Any product with vague descriptions just won't sell well.

    I'm an expert.

My advice? What is the INTENT? All of these general ideas are meaningless, there is not a right or wrong answer, it all depends on what you want.

An INFORMATION product, like the DIRECTORY OF MAIL ORDER CATALOGS sells for $450.00. Not the most expensive by far, but a smaller market, although very active and a lot of buyers.

Martin Armstrong sells information products, low end at $125.00, and has a healthy list of BUYERS.

What is it you want the information product to DO? The answer to this will help you identify how general or specific you want to get. Of course if you have specialized knowledge, and it appears you do not, then you have to really think and KNOW why you would want to consider getting into the information product business, do you?

In very general terms, with lots of exceptions; the lower cost information will get wider distribution or interest. These are most often used as lead generation devices or to get a prospect into a funnel.

You can then create different paths for this customer with more options on what and how the information is delivered too.

The more expensive the information product is, the smaller the target market, in general, but they may be more likely to buy.

So, you can sell 103 reports for 97.00 in a few hours (as we have done), because that is considered low cost for the information.

You could sell many more, maybe 10x more for only 10 bux.

Or you could sell 10 (all of the same information, but geared toward a market) at a thousand bux.

One thing to note, the more customers you have, the more slop and mess you get into.

So, you can choose to have thousands, maybe millions of customers with a low cost general information product, or you could have a few high paying customers who won't bug the snot out of you.

Again, it is determined by your INTENT and what exactly you want to do with your information product. Start there: the REASON why you would get into information product selling.
