For those of you that are not full time IM

I was having a unique discussion with one of my good friends that is a very talented web and software designer that works for a big well known global firm. He has opportunities to work on side projects all of the time but turns most of them down because he just does not want to give up his free time. I can completely understand this as a person that does enjoy his free time with my family. So this leads to my question, for those of you that do not work full time IM on your own, just how much time do you spend working on your projects? Do you think you are spending too much of your extra time and not enjoying life chasing after those extra $$

Well, making additional income online is not only my business, but my hobby. They say when you do something you love, you'll never work a day in your life. Thats pretty much how I feel. At the end of the day, I can look at what I've done, and what my effort has made me.

...Sometimes I look at the real work I do with my family and wonder when I'm ever going to feel any sense of accomplishment. I'm the guy that says he has to work when he knows he doesn't really HAVE to, but WANTS to.

Oh well. Just the way I am.

Now I am doing this full time, but when I started I was working 12-15 hr days 6 days a week plus 4-6 hrs a day on my marketing.
    1. I had no life, no tv, nothing but the internet, so i didnt get bored
    2. I needed the $$. even working the hours I was, I barely covered my rent every month. I had to do something to make more money.

Now I am in the habbit of working such long days, I often find myself still doing it, even though I don't have to. I also find that I can ramp up a new project faster now that I Have more hours a day to work on it.

I have a couple different IM businesses and honestly, free time is always gonna be there for me. I'd rather hustle every single day and put in the 16 hour days that none of my competitors are doing and keep the cash flow coming in steady.

Once you get to a certain point, the money isn't really what you're after. I'm after the level of success that will allow me to make a positive influence in the lives of thousands of people.

I don't need free time every single day. Maybe once or twice a week just to keep me rejuvenated. Now is the time to keep grindin' it out. If you want to enjoy that free time, then work hard now to actually make "FREE" (not costing you money) time....

I'm honestly at a stage where I'm developing my online businesses....so working 15 hour days - six days a week has just been the norm for last couple of months....there's just not much time for much anything else

I do try to put in the time for my girl-friend and friends, but it's just that time when you have to put in the time to keep the $$ coming in!

    Hi All,

I completely agree. Doing your day job suddenly seems like such a chore when you have IM to look forward to at the end of the day. It makes sense to just do IM instead of an 'establishment' job.
Anyone who has made it to full time IM - good luck to you! I know it will be me soon, and I cant wait!

I do find myself looking forward to going home and working on different projects and just learning new things. BUT with that said I also enjoy spending time with my family and will ALWAYS put them first.

Having the freedom to NOT to wake up every day and jostle with other people commuting on the train to go to work. Knowing that you will be repeating the same "chores" on a daily basis over and over again with no ending in sight.

Making my own choices at my own time. Having to wake up at 1 in the afternoon and going to Starbucks and sitting around watching people and watching my income grow!

Once you know that you can support yourself doing something that you can replicate and earning the same "salary" if not more than your regular work.

For me, the motivation of not having to work when I am 60 years old and knowing that I will have an income that will not diminish over time. In Singapore, the working age is slowly increasing which stands at 65 years right now. In 10 years' we will be at 70 years of age before we retire.

I have a sign in front on my work table that shout, " WHAT TIME IS IT?" The answer lies within you or myself in particular! For me is making money strictly ( the rest will follows in due time). Finding ways to make money on the internet is a topic that I have been fascinated since I started in 2006.

As a freelance trainer, it has allowed me the 5-6 hours of my time daily to do what I am fascinated with...

Look at yourself in 5 years time and ask what you will be doing....or more importantly, what DO YOU want to do.....sit at Starbucks with a coffee in your hand chillaxing or trying to complete your work on time...only you can decide...so DECIDE.

If you put in the time to be good in your job, imagine what will happen if you put the same effort in your IM business....

This is a great post. It's nice to hear how other p/t people approach this. I have a f/t career that does take alot of my time. I am married with young kids at home. To spend all of my time working and then doing IM'ing wouldn't be fair to raising my kids or keeping my marriage healthy.

For me I had to make sacrifices elsewhere such as limiting time in front of the TV, watching DVD's, cutting down on my workouts and sleep. I spend about 15 to 20 hours/week on IM'ing. Usually from 10pm to 12am or 1am; then I usually get up around 5am and put in an hour in the morning.

Now - I can't honestly say that it is all focused and concentrated efforts during that time. When I crank, I crank. Sometimes I find myself in a complete fog though.

I do think about the business most of the day though - thinking what my next step is and what I have to accomplish.
