Find Websites/Blogs that haven't been updated in a while

I'm trying to find some websites that haven't been updated in a while in certain niches and I was wondering if anybody had any ideas or thoughts.

So far, the only thing I can think about is to search for the footprint: Copyright 2000, Copyright 2001, and so on until 2020. Obviously, it's not a guaranteed success but usually people that are maintaining their site update the Copyright every year.

Otherwise, I thought about searching Google by date range but it doesn't really work. I just did a search for articles that were 3 years old or older, I found a bunch of sites but all of them had been updated since. It was only the articles that were old.

So anyone? Any ideas or thoughts?

    what is your plan.

    I would search for things you know are out of date and check those sites out. Example, search for squidoo

    It is very hard to find such niches. Everyone wanted to get such keywords to rank their website faster. And in current times when competition is on its peak we can't come by such keywords easily. However, I suggest you keep search in google and check the dates properly. I hope you would get one

    The copyright in the footer of most sites is automatically updated with javascript, which always returns the current year. Something like ...

    <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">var date = new Date(); document.write(date.getFullYear());</script>

    What is it that you are trying to accomplish by finding websites that haven't been updated in awhile?

      I agree Dave that many sites that haven't been updated in a while will still return the current year but some sites that were "hardcoded" would still show up in the results.

      What I'm trying to accomplish here is to find websites that haven't been updated in a while to try to purchase those sites. So for example, by searching for dog training sites that haven't been updated over the last 2 years.

        Really, the most important thing when buying a website or domain is where it already ranks and for what. That's the real value in buying an existing domain.

        Back in the day, when I became nationally known as a "website flipper", I didn't look for sites that had not been updated. I looked for sites that had decent enough rankings but were poorly designed or missing components which meant they were not making nearly the kind of money sites in that position should be making.

        While a site could very well update content daily, weekly monthly, it still doesn't help overcome the things that lead to poor conversion rates. This could be anything from a really dated looking template, to poor navigation, to non-competitive pricing, no trust elements and these days, poor mobile design.

        One of the main things I looked for were sites that only had PayPal as a payment processor (many people refuse to use PayPal or cant use them for a myriad of reasons) or only had a regular payment processor but no PayPal (likewise, some people only trust PayPal). A site with a single payment option type will almost always be worth double or even triple what the owner thinks it is worth because they are missing a whole lot of sales.

        I was then able to make an offer to buy the site and get it for less money than it was really worth once I cleaned up those things.

        Another thing that you might want to explore is blogs that rank well but aren't necessarily monetized very well. We had someone who was a member of our eCommerce training program with a blog that made a few hundred dollars per month and asked what he could do to make more money. This was an affiliate site where he linked to products on other sites and earned a measly commission. I told him to try to find dropshippers of those products and sell them, himself. When he did that, the site went from a $2-3,000/year income site to a $2-3,000/month in income site.

        Finally, I don't think I've ever seen a website that hard codes the copyright in the footer. I'm sure they exist, but it's got to be pretty rare.

    One thing you might try: Choose a niche - a broad niche - do a google search for that niche and then go to page 20-30-40-more of results ....in many niches, you'll find sites that need refreshing or redoing.

    I just gave it a trying using the keywords - dog training - and at least got a laugh on page 18 or so when I found an old looking site with the domain

    Obviously, doesn't take a lot to entertain me....
