How Long Should a Social Media Video Be?

It's the question on everyone's lips - whether you're new to social media, video production marketing, and digital content or a supremely experienced old-hand.

It depends on the content, and the platform you want to use.

I have never watched anything that was shorter than 0 seconds or longer than 2 hours.

And I've watched quite a few.

If it's a video about how great they are, it should be 0 seconds, unless it's really good and they are really good, maybe 30 seconds. Unless they are Einstein , Proust, Virgina Wolf, Bill Gates, and their type, then it could be 5 minutes. 6? Somewhere around there.

Social media videos that work well have a purpose other than "We are posting this because we know we need to be in your face every day," and that purpose dictates the length (style, etc.).

Narrow down your question; you'll get better answers.

Any video longer than 2 hours and uploaded on social media is a pirated film

Especially I feel 15min is enough to make a video on any platform and after that it gets boring.

Well i think it should be in the range of 5 ,10 ,15 or 20 minutes but the content needs to be very engaging for people to watch it as they get bored very fast . I think 1 hour videos its not worth it as people valuate theyr time a lot so they dont want to lose so much time ,if they dont have a real benefit to them

Best social video length: less than 1 minute

For viral content, Facebook recommends videos that are less than one minute or stories that are less than 20 seconds in length. But depend on your content.

    - 43 - 45 seconds

    LinkedIn:
    - 30 seconds or less

    Pinterest:
    - 6 - 15 seconds

    YouTube:
    - Organic YouTube video length: 15 minutes
    - TrueView Stream Ads length: videos can be anywhere from 12 seconds to 3 minutes
    - Sponsored Cards length: 15 - 20 seconds

What matter the most is your content. If your content is relatable to the audience or attractive enough, the length of the video doesn't matter. But the ideal time would be of 30 seconds.

Does 30 seconds work for you, personally? What about 2-min long videos, for example?

  • If you're posting videos meant for quick conversations and business awareness, you should aim for much shorter videos as you can. Because after 15-20 seconds people usually scrool down!

Considering the thread is over a month and a half old. I doubt the original poster will be back to ask better questions. Since the poster signed right after asking the question.
