These are just three of the most challenging areas within digital marketing today--tomorrow, they will no doubt be different.

I hate TikTok, it's stupid and chaotic...At LinkedIn or Twitter I can give you a clear roadmap on how to grow, how to sell there, I kind of know what works and what doesn't, how and what to test, what use each content have...In TikTok I just do videos everyday and one shitty video get 10k views and a really good one gets 50, why? I don't know

      And cringe.

      Check this stat out:

4 out of 10 countries are from Southeast Asia. I'm from the PH, and content creators here sure are cringeworthy.

probably because tiktok is not a marketing platform and the people that go there just want to see humorous, mindless crap. Every time marketers see a site or app getting millions of views they immediately want to exploit it for their own personal gains, then when it does not perform for them they hate it.

Well, being the first one or among the first ones in a social platform can represent a big advantage; I remember in 2017, I grew a Instagram account organically to more than 10k in like...2 months or so? And only posting once a day, try that now haha

But ofc, to succeed in any social platform you need a good strategy and excellent marketing, just being the first is not enough and also do a due diligence on the platform, not every social platform is suitable or is gonna be "the next Youtube/FB/TW/IG/Etcetera

Me ?? Putting it all together is pure drudgery for myself anymore.Developing a product, writing copy, making sure all the links work, getting an email series ready for the customer/ potential customer etc..etc... is something I just do not partake in anymore.

I have had my fair share of successes and failures with this... and I'm glad to be over and done with it

I don't believe those numbers. There are 330 million in the US and that graph claims 1 in 3 is on TikTok? If that number is true I'd say those are 5-6 yr olds being entertained.

Taking statistics from the internet and believe them at face value is not conducive to finding the truth on any subject.

    Speaking of TikTok...

it's absolutely loaded with millions and millions of bots. These bots can change algorithms and are very deceptive.

Ever seen a stupid video that makes no sense and yet it will have 400 shares? or 10s of thousands of likes? Mostly all bots.

If you're a business advertising on TikTok, you need to be very wary of all the likes and followers you get...and realize what you think you're getting for your money is not exactly as it appears. You would be smart to look into what I'm saying and research it.

No, I'm not just an old person that dislikes social media. There are a lot of voices behind the red flags that are getting raised over the app.

I honestly am not sure why we allow the app in the U.S.

Makes sense, there's something fishy with this app... There are figures of the estimated amount of bots? For example, in Twitter the estimations are between 20-60 million bots, which is massive, but still around 10% of the total users, which makes the UX far worse that it should, but not unworkable for a marketer...TikTok? Geez! Pure chaos, maybe it has to do with the number of bots

I've seen several figures in the millions. There are also millions of fake accounts.

What really got me interested in the bots, etc., was when I started reading reports from some companies that were saying they were excited with their early advertising because it seemed to be going well. Then, upon further investigation, they found out most of the likes and follows were from bots.

Actually took several hours one day to do some research and see if this was a big problem or limited to just a few. The evidence was pretty overwhelming about the bots and fake accounts.

I'm sure there may be some doing well...but, I would recommend doing your research before you jumped in too far without an idea of what could happen...

Ha! Yes, I deleted tiktok recently for all of the reasons discussed here. I agree that the testing phase is my nemesis as well. The hard thing is keeping track of what changes are made and actually if those changes made the different. One of the issues is that there's always other factors happening outside of the changes you're making and so is it those our yours making the difference. I wish there was some software that managed this sort of thing and took into account outside factors as well!

        100%
There are some nice tips on testing in the thread "naming", if you want to take a look. A software like that would be awesome, but I think there's some "Sherlock work" into finding what works best and analyzing your metrics and testing, I don't know if you can automate that

I hate acronyms. not just in marketing but in everything. you try to get information on a new topic or format then in the middle, there is this three-letter abbreviation that I am supposed to know what it means.

The worst thing about internet marketing is the myth that it's easy and anyone can do it without experience. Learning the basics of internet marketing and building up your business requires a lot of time and effort. There are also many scammers online who will try to take your money with fake products and courses.

The best way to avoid these problems is to learn from someone with experience in internet marketing. I recommend following some marketers on social media and learning from their free content. You can also attend meetups (a face-to-face event where people meet to discuss a specific topic) to talk to experienced marketers. You can also read books by professional people or take online courses if you want more structure.

Sometimes they work. Most of the time it's plain BS. Case in point, Facebook's news feed algorithm change.

Totally agree...I've spent the last two years building up a youtube channel and it's the same thing. The blind leading the blind...we all just guess but there's no solid for sure guide from youtube or even clear rules about content if it gets banned or something. Just this mysterious black box that they control and no one really knows what's happening behind the scenes.

I hate how all the big social networks seem to be pulling up the ladder behind them. 5-7 yrs ago, you really could post youtube videos/fb posts and be found and hit it big. Now the algorithms are not only making everything more "pay to play" but they are also getting (IMO at least) too picky about what kind of opinions people espouse and booting off info or people they don't like. Which is turning social media into an echo chamber of "the chosen ones" which is not at all how the internet was supposed to be or originally was.

Also yes, agree about Tiktok hahhahhaha. I used to love that app-I have a Youtube channel, and had branched out onto TikTok, was growing steadily on TikTok getting 3-10 followers a day and then all out of nowhere, when I was at about the 9k follower mark, they suddenly just started removing followers. No joke, like every day for the last year or so, every time I log on, I've lost a couple followers. I'm now down to less than 8500 followers, and each of my videos used to show on average to about 400 people, now it's 40. So I think I got shadow banned or something. So yes, lol...boo on Tiktok, hahha.

The one thing I don't understand about digital marketing...

is if I haven't heard of your company before through advertising, I'm probably not going to buy. So why if you're a little guy are you going to spend countless hours trying to appease me through SEO, etc.?

And, I think that's pretty true for most buyers these days.

If you're selling on Amazon...most will look at your ratings and decide. Not sure if you can do SEO or whatever for your store on Amazon...but to be honest, I have no idea.

I hear about all these people trying to do content and SEO and blah, blah, blah...

and I don't see how any of that matters if you're unheard of in the first place.

Instead of SEO, I would partner with someone that had influence and a list. Seems to me that would save yourself a ton of headaches.

There are so many shortcuts that all the little stuff doesn't seem that important anymore.

Walmart may do SEO, not sure, but if I"m looking for something from them, I just go to walmart dot com.

Partnering with someone would be so much more valuable than worrying about all the SEO stuff in my opinion.

let me try to explain the better than theory behind this... Ad space is "finite" and Search is "Infinite"

If 80%+of all purchases come from "Search" and on a good day Ads consume 20% of the traffic - you are grabbing 1 in 5, throw in a 5% close rate

Some math 100 visitors search "X" you get 20 clicks from those 100 impressions - and you are closing 5% traffic to your ad. you are closing 1 in 100 or 1% overall.

I know you understand, as well as I do that buyers search is cyclical, meaning there is a start and there is an obvious end. A basic buyers cycle may look something like

      Tire kickers ( wedding )
More refined rough search ( wedding dress )
Even clearer defined search ( White floral wedding dress )
A comparison search ( Vera Wang vs Galia Lahav floral wedding dresses )
A buyer search ( Vera Wang Jacqueline ivory silk wedding dress )

The premise of SEO is to get the "Touches" through content in the buyers cycle... from one search to the next to the other your site is present. Very much the same with ads - impression after impression after impression until they cave and click

remember that search results will get clicked 4 out of 5 times - 4X the traffic with 1% close rate.

One is a front loaded investment ( SEO ) and the other is a pay as you play investment ( Ads )

A short term campaign... yup, sure run ads... you have been in business 20 years, SEO wins the day

And then throw this down to the local level where you can control value added BRAND IE car dedcals and billboards and newspaper ads and building signage etc etc... its not a "Ive never seen you before" situation

The little guy CAN WIN... but its a very small percentage that will - and this stands true with Ads OR SEO

Maybe the word hate is said too much, but some popups bother me. I have my website and have worked on creating the popup window for a long time. I have seen different websites with high-quality popup windows and some very bad ones that made my experience as a user of that site very bad. That's why I wanted to avoid such poor-quality popup windows, and I worked quite a lot on creating a quality WordPress popup. But until the end, I chose a wonderful result and am very satisfied with this. That's what I hate the most about internet/digital marketing.

That's true, back then webmasters put a "I love Google" link back to their website to show compliance to the Big Giant. But the Giant was voracious and stepped on them to sit on his throne and laugh at the minions. This was the beginning of the end for the webmaster.

Google destroyed small businesses en masse holocaust style and when the masks dropped the bids catapulted... no more average Joes in the listings.

I hate that there is a trend to use AI to replace content creators.

Content creation is the part of marketing I love the most. I love creating! I write anywhere from 10K to 25K words a day. I write for my own blogs. I freelance write for others. In all honesty, writing chills me out.

I could never see myself relying on artificial intelligence to write for me.

SEO has always told us to write for humans and not robots, right?

I say humans should be doing that writing, not robots.

I like solo ads, but they just cost too much for me. It's time to get some traffic for my business! I have very good business, but the lack of traffic ruins it.

I don't like people wasting my time with an outrageous story about how rich I'm going to become by using their product. What I hate most about internet marketing is ... how most of them are promoted. They're like bombs going off that attract a lot of attention for a week or so and then disappear. IMers have promulgated this psycho belief that's driven entirely by FOMO -- Buy it now or you'll never get the chance!

It's bad enough that places like Costco and Sam's Club have seasonal things that are there for just a few months, but there's a lot of great stuff being created and if you don't buy it when it's launched, you may never see it again.

A close second to that is software products being sold for a unusually low one-time cost that I know is unsustainable. They say they're going to raise the price and turn it into a monthly deal, but virtually nobody ever does. So they might make a huge pot of money on the launch, but affiliates get 60% of that and the rest runs out in 6 months or so, and then what? To keep the lights on, they pound the hell out of you with emails promoting every other launch to the point where you can't even remember what you bought from these guys originally. And you never hear about it from them again. Meaning that if you find their tool to actually be useful, there's a better than even chance their support for it will steadily decline and there will be virtually no improvements made to it -- because they have no income to invest in anything further.

The thing i hate most of all is the same thing that has been happening in internet marketing or any sort of business for years one day u are on social media and you get a message from someone out of the blue they have never said hello or introduced themselves they just promoted some random link or offer hoping that u click on it and you buy their product one thing is certain for sure it never works or will ever work today or in the future.

a couple of things you have to consider why would i buy from someone i have never heard of and no nothing of what the product/service does and also people dont buy at first glance and their is squeese page to collect their email becuase they are only thinking on the mindset whats in it for them and the customers are just a number they have no value to them.

for much as this fails and dont like how much people do their business, there is an escape plan and to be different than perhaps everyone else in the market. give real true value one very simple way is say for eg on facebook try this.

    1. like post
    2. comment on it dont say good job for eg

review thier post and comment what u loved about it maybe a sentence or 2, and give something extra, they think he isnt like everybody else, click on ur profile and maybe check out your website all because you gave them so value, i hope this helps and this that may read this, thanks for this question today
