Wondering if your product is a great candidate for a video marketing strategy? This article could he

A new article on Search Engine Journal reports that good video SEO can improve your overall SEO strategy.

I found this an interesting read, and I think it's going to prove relevant and helpful for some of you. Basically, creating and marketing videos goes far beyond YouTube findability.

It's not just about whether your product is suitable for YouTube, for instance.

Videos can make your content better, your product easier to understand and your brand more credible and relatable. Further, videos continue to receive exposure on Page 1 of Google's search results for an increasing number of queries. And even beyond that, a well-shaped video strategy can boost your overall SEO efforts. The original article explains how, using a few main headers:
  • Developing a deeper understanding of your customers' buying journeys: Video keyword research allows for discovery regarding which queries your target audience is using when searching for videos. When you start researching video-driven search queries, you get a better understanding of your target market and where your product may fit in. Your overall SEO strategy becomes better informed than that of your competitors.
  • Creating better on-SERP visibility through video carousels: Google's search engine results are much more diverse, visual and interactive than they were a decade ago. These days Google's SERPs include related images, instant answers, popular questions, and more - and one of the most visible sections is the one that includes related videos. In short, well-optimized and hence high-ranking videos that are branded provide additional visibility to a brand helping it dominate its target search result pages with more than a single organic listing.
  • Get more visibility in organic search with video-rich snippets: While YouTube video pages may act as organic listings giving you additional visibility, earning video-rich snippets allows you to get your own page ranked in the same SERPs. People seeing a video thumbnail and clicking through to a page expect to find a video on that page, so they are more likely to stay on the page and watch the video. This, in turn, increases the probability that they will continue their journeys through the site, engage with your brand more, and dive deeper into the conversion funnel.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the advice it contains, especially if you've been wrestling with the idea of using more video content.

  • I didn't read the article yet. but I can tell you that video gets preferential treatment by Google.

When I've created videos on a specific subject, the videos almost always show up on page one of a Google search for that search term.

And...video thumbnails are easy to see. They draw the eye.

A bar of iron cost $5. Made into horseshoes, it's worth $12. Made into needles, it's worth $3500. Made into balance springs for watches, it's worth $300,000. Your value is determined by what you are able to make of yourself

I'm assuming all video, but I am only sure about the Youtube videos I've posted. I have seen high ranking videos that were posted on other video sites.

This perked a point of interest... i just did at least 20 random searches on Google and each and every search result contained YouTube results and YouTube results only.

I think since YouTube is Google,YT videos get preferential treatment, naturally. But, I have seen keyword searches that pull Vimeo videos hosted outside of YT, and I imagine those cases are rare in G-SERP's.

One of these days, I am going to need to start creating video funnels, as our daughter's - sister-in-law is crushing it on Tik Tok selling her custom tumbler templates, glitter kits, and she's 'teaching' from the "1st Person Shooter" perspective (on video) and has built a massive amount of traffic to her Shopify site.

I'm not sure if she is repurposing and ranking her content/keywords on YouTube/Google yet, but I would imagine - if she does - her sales would be even more phenomenal. She just retired her 30-something year old husband, as he now helps her full-time running her brand; Cult Glitter (dot) com.

I was going to disagree with you, because I used to get videos from Vimeo and Dailymotion at the bottom of page 1, just by posting. But I looked again today and today there were no non-youtube videos for searches where 1 year ago there would be (either mine or someone else's.).

It's possible that just about all videos are just posted on Youtube. Vimeo and Dailymotion videos have been on a few of the searches I've made.

Another thought is that lots of people do their search on Youtube to begin with, bypassing Google altogether.

Most of my video views come from Youtube searches instead of Google searches.

This is not something I have overly looked at recently... I have been video heavy with projects in the past, and found Google vs Youtube to be the primary source. Looking at some of the minor things we are doing now... Youtube search is about 80/20 over Google. - interesting
