If you're blogging and not using RSS with some kind of syndication metrics reporting (like Feedburner), you're missing the boat.

The fact is that people don't surf around the web like they used to. Thinking someone is going to come visit your site every week to consume your content is dangerous in this era. RSS has enabled a lot of information consumption in a short amount of time by allowing someone to aggregate their favorite site feeds in a reader, which they peruse quickly and focus on the items of interest.

I am constantly amazed at how many people subscribe to my feed, and I realize how important it is to be leveraging the technology to build my base.

    I couldn't agree more Michael,

I always make sure my blogs have RSS Feeds setup with Feedburner before I even post, its that important!

I always say to people that even if they are building a email list using their blog, they should offer RSS feeds. Many people prefer RSS and they'll leave your site without subscribing if you are not offering it.

And never under estimate the power of RSS subscribers. The moment you post an article, they are the ones who are going to tweet it, social bookmark it and literally do all the promotion for you at NO COST.
