Different language pages - is it good or bad for SEO

12 replies
Is it really a huge problem with search engine ranking if I have a different language version for every page on my website?

I read that I should have a subdomain for the pages with the other language.

But, my site is on Weebly and it's virtually impossible to setup a subdomain, if your original domain was not purchased from Weebly.

Any help would be applicated.

    Google ranks pages, not individual websites. It should not affect other pages on the site one way or the other.

      It is my experience without the Language specified global attribute

      An example:

      HTML Code:
      <!DOCTYPE html>
      <html>
      <body>

      <p lang="en">This is text</p>

      </body>
      </html>
      Google starts doing weird things - like not indexing pages due to duplication ( same words different language ). As much as Google looks at pages and not sites, it does compare pages within the site as a whole.

      And because the platform we are dealing with here is Weebly - One is not allowed to just go in and throw an HTML tag in - this has to be done directly or in this case through an APP ( plugin )

        Thanks Savidge4 so much for your super helpful replies.

        We have to assume that the Multilanguage APP (Plugin) does insert the <p lang="en"> tag to the other language pages? Or, is there a way to check this?

        I mean, after we purchase and publish the APP on our site, we can check the HTML in the browser. But, before purchase, we can't be 100% sure that the APP HTML includes this tag. Right?

        Again, I appreciate your help with this.

          So digging a bit in the "Live Demo" and switching to French I was able to identify:

          HTML Code:
          <html lang="fr">
          So yes it indeed places the language within the code.

          As a side note here...there is a whole lot of reasons outside of different languages that people should pay attention to this. An example would be for someone that uses the "screen reader" function. Without the Language tag the reader doesnt know what language to speak - kinda. but the inclusion of the tag even in single language sites does make the site "More Accessible"

          Not that you can do this on Weebly specifically, but you can include text in 2 or more languages on a page and use the code above that would identify those separate blocks of text.

          As much as this is has been a very miniscule strategy by web builders - the recent move by the likes of Mr Beast ( as an example ) is showing that content in multiple languages is a big deal. A very small portion of the world population actually reads English.

          My move to multi language started when Google began localizing search - be it by Current Location or State or Country ( USA references of geographical boundaries ), The Language tags can and do increase the overall reach of your content - maybe not so much "en" ( English ) but languages like Spanish, Portuguese, Tagalog, and Japanese ( languages with personal experience ) I see a greater reach geographically crossing International borders.

          Anyways, hope this helps!

    Understanding the scenario you are in ( Weebly ) They actually make an APP for this ( as in a Weebly APP ).

    and here is a video that may help you work through the steps:

    As far as I know, providing your site content in several languages will help you increase your potential audience and increase the number of conversions. And if implemented correctly, it can also improve your site's overall SEO ranking. I think you can use a translator for this, you don't have to be multilingual.

    No this is not a problem at all as far as I know this is good thing as google will rank the website in multiple languages and google index and rank pages not a complete website so every pages has its own ranking and traffic.

    You do not have to worry that it will harm your website somehow on the contrary this action will help you attract more users from different countries who are your potential clients, users, or readers. It will help you increase your SEO ranking which is very important for a website because it will help you gain the trustworthiness of the people on the internet. Btw sometimes website owners completely forget about the power of SEO and how easily it can help them achieve the goals they made. When I found out about DroidOwl (SEO agency) I didn't have trust in what SEO specialists do, but after several weeks I saw the changes, the sales increased and I couldn't be happier.
