Ok, I need help with an affiliate link...

This is probably common sense to many of you, but I have a question about using an affiliate link and a website.

I want to promote an affiliate product. But I would like to give them a different URL (my own unique domain) but have it go to the affiliate website with my affiliate code intact so I get credit for the sale.

Is this what they mean by "cloaking"?

Thanks!

  • If you have a cpanel in your hosting just create a subdomain and re-direct that subdomain to your affiliate link.

    As for cloaking here's what wikipedia says about it : Cloaking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    • What you are trying to do is very simple.

      Create a new HTML document with the following code:

      Code:
      <head>
      <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://youraffiliatelinkhere.com">
      </head>
      Save the file and upload it to your server.

      Now, when you create a hyperlink to the new HTML file you just uploaded, it will redirect to your affiliate link.
    • Yes, I have to agree with Rapidscc. Sometimes, I buy a domain just for my affiliate links and redirect the domain to the affiliate site.
  • If you are using Wordpress check out: WordPress › Pretty Link WordPress Plugins

    It will turn you affiliate links into: http://yourdomainname.com/affiliateoffer you can also track clicks. This is by far the easiest cloaker to use and it has many options. (Plus it's free)
