Everyone suggests inking things down in traditional ink and paper. This is not a good experience for me because I suffer from extensive nerve damage from a car accident and just writing a legible note that can be read without serious decyphering capabilities takes a long time for me and can be painful. What's a good alternative? I already write things down on my notepad on the computer. Don't ask me to draw or write with paper and pen.

Voice to text would work - you talk into a mic and the program transfers the words into written text. You can even specify the punctuation, paragraphs, etc.

Dragon is perhaps best known and hugely responsive but also pricey...would be worth it IF you have determined the speech-to-text works for you.

Apple has a free speech to text program as does google docs and probably quite a few other options (Win 10 may have it, too). The only typing you would do is to replace a wrong letter or the occasional edit needed. Once accustomed to talking your way through an article....it's really easy to use.

In Chrome, you can speak your thoughts on a computer/tablet/phone in Google docs.

Other than that, there are many apps for voice-to-text/dictation.

The biggest problem there, for me and people like me, is organizing them... I mean, the ones I tried are easy to use (even the worst one).

One way to get it done for free is to just record a video and upload it to YouTube.

(YouTube automatically generates transcripts now, so you'd have to edit the time stamps out, but it gets the job done fairly well.)

Or you could record voice notes and use a transcription service.

You could even take a long note on your phone and let your microphone do the live transcription from your keypad.

I think you'll be alright with whichever method you decide to use.

You can use a voice recorder app on your phone and just refer back to your voice notes. Or you can use the voice recorder and have someone transcribe them into writing for you.

    Hope this helps!

Can I assume all newer cells have something like notes? For brief posts and such, or even longer ideas, I just open notes, and hit the microphone and just like text messages, it transcribes, and then I can send it to iCloud, or email, or any of several places.

Now, I have Dragon, and an Olympus 722, which records mp3, and the Dragon has been trained enough, I can just hook the Olympus up, and it transcribes while I do something else.

Now, otter.ai has a free trial, it works pretty good too. And others have a pay as you go plan, very reasonable. The investment in Dragon and Olympus has been worth 1000 times its cost, more than literally.

Good call! Even better! Yes I would assume all newer phones have something like notes. It's super quick, I totally forgot you could use the microphone and it transcribes as you speak! Being able send it anywhere you like after is super helpful too. Great option for someone who isn't ready to pay for more advanced options yet
