.......that have a fairly short name followed by a number and the vast majority of their posts are like "yeah, I agree" or "what a great post!". They look like:

lulu22
broker71
emombu6

Where in the heck are they coming from? I say we keep a close eye on these.......

  • The stereotype isn't exactly accurate, my friend.

I, on purpose, avoid leaving small posts because I am aware of how it appears to others. At this stage in the game, anybody with brain one knows that trolling forums with crap replies is the worst idea as they'll be flamed for spamming quicker than Lindsay Lohan can toot a line of coke.

In response to the post though, they come from Michigan. Detroit mostly. Hard times, my friend....hard times.

      @Rod,
I've busted one today and reported it.
The guy vanished so fast my head is still spinning.
  • Lol - the replies from the board veterans just cracked me up.
  • Oh no! That looks suspiciously like a description of my nickname.

Please don't keep an eye on me. =P

    • Jag you've been BUSTED.......... lol

Yeah, in that post the spammer made the OP and then he complained about the PM rule. Then Allen chimed in and called him out.....and he mysteriously disappeared in the backwoods of Louisana.....hahahaha
    • Were the other 81 Jags taken already? This forum is pretty popular eh

  • There was another post about this. Some spammer is creating tons of accounts and was complaining that the implemented post count in order to send PM spam to Warriors was too high.
  • Steven I thought your name was

    • I made a post about this Wednesday but it got deleted immediately.

I didn't name names but I did say watch xxxxxx post a WSO. The very next day (Thursday) they posted a WSO.

      How about that...

  • I'm fairly sure the "broker" person you mentioned above is a PM spammer, recently banned by Allen. I don't know if they are all the same person trying to beat the 50 posts-before-PM rule, but it wouldn't surprise me.
  • git a rope!
  • This has turned out to be a pretty funny thread. I know my reply is a bit too long to be included in the joke, but it is annoying to see people doing this.

    • My side hurts from laughing right now...seriously funny stuff here!
  • PM spammers have indeed been active.

Got hit by a "sparrow7" the other day.
  • Great post!
  • Me too. Pour me another drink, will ya?

  • great post!
    Yeah I agree!
    Excellent Post!

  • I'm glad I don't have numbers after name. I'm pretty low on the post count myself.

  • yeah I agree, great post ...
  • Hey on a serious note:

anyone recieved like spam PMs in your PM box?

I remembered a few days ago someone sent me something with a "Forums are full of gold nuggets" with a link shortened by tinyurl service.

I promptly replied and told the guy gold nuggets belong in Mcdonalds and not in forums.

    ...

    Okay I didn't, sorry.
  • What I hate is when I leave a one liner.

I occasionally feel compelled to leave a comment of thanks, more than just hitting the THANKS button but have nothing to add to the thread. I seldom do it, but sometimes one line is all I have to say.
  • These would be from a forum posting service, they claim to make relevant posts on forums to build you links, for a small charge.

the give away is the number as it is the id used by the staffers who make the post.

check the Sig's and they are the people who they would be posting for on the paid service

the problem is these people make it sound like a great service to those people buying, and i am sure they never really see the rubbish posted by these people.
  • do you need a certain amount of posts to be able to put links in sigs?

chances are they just want a backlink
  • Could be that these new people are leaving short posts so that they get passed the trial period faster.

  • I don't agree, j/k

    wtf2009

(Damn I am pretty new here so I better write some more filler to this post ).

I have noticed the spammers getting creative on my blogs now. I'm actually enjoying the jokes they keep leaving as they are so bloody crap!
  • true......
  • Well, most of these are spammers!
  • Banned
    yeah, I agree on that
    • [1] reply
    • That's not surprising as the vast majority
of your posts are one liners.
  • One line? I can't say hi in one line. I am very glad I don't have any numbers in my name. My parents were poor and numbers cost more than regular letters.

This was really good information that I couldn't find any where else. I am really glad you posted it. I am certain that I will learn much more from you in the coming days. I am going to mention this post to my friends so they can learn from it as well.

See spammer's just need to be more creative :0 (This is almost word for word what was left on one of my blog's recently.. one that simple had a filler page that said - Coming soon)

See I can't even stick to one line for a joke. Sigh. I think I need a time out.
  • Yeah, I totally agree, what a great post keep up the great detective work!
  • Yes, I have noticed this and reported several of them recently.
I think as long as we stay vigilant this will not become a huge problem.

  • i post this find interesting on my favorite subject.

(An actual spam comment on one of my blogs.
    Just seemed so fitting here.)

  • Rod,

Yup, and names like that with numbers attached usually means they are using automated software to spam with - whether it be for links in their profiles or simply to build post count to get sig links.
  • I agree, it's really so annoying when they put in some idiotic 2 or 3 word sentence to raise their post count. People in here are not stupid, they're going to figure out you're nothing more than a spam-tastic jackass once you do it a few times. They must have left their brains behind when they joined this forum...lol

    Paul
  • Well I admit that my 'handle' sounds like one of these spammers but the "um" actually stands for Umbrelo Media, which is the name of my business.

In retrospect, I should have joined with my actual name.

    • Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but you used to be able to submit a support ticket via the help desk and have them change your user name. That's how I did it a couple years ago.
