For those who own two sites or more: Do you have an LLC for Each?

Are do they fall under one LLC. Also, how do you set things up for tax purposes. I own a sports news site, but I planned to niche down and build one around a particular team. Just trying to figure out how to go about it from a tax and legal standpoint.

This all depends on what you want... but you can have multiple businesses under one LLC. Only register a new LLC if you have a good reason why you should... A good reason can be if you plan to sell one of the businesses in future.

Whether or not your website is part of an LLC, S-Corp or sole proprietorship has nothing to do with your ability to sell it.

Keep them both (or more) under one LLC. It doesn't affect your taxes or the marketability of any individual website. LLCs are pass-through entities, so you can file as a corporation or sole proprietorship for tax purposes,.

The reason to have more than one LLC is liability protection. If LLC 1 gets sued, LLC 2 is not affected, typically.

From a tax perspective, you're right, no difference, except in the amounts you pay your accountant.

Yeah, I guess. We' ve never sold anything that we worried about get sued over but then again, almost all of our sites are dropship, so the manufacturer is the one who would be sued, not the retailer. (Not a single retailer was sued in the Big Tobacco landmark lawsuit, for instance.)

You can get a operating license if you already have an llc and would to take payments in the sites name.
Simple to do with a phone call to legal zoom . The only reason I would ever separate them in their own llc is if I needed to take payments in the sites name. Otherwise I think it's just a waist of time and money.
