Looking for guidance. One brand two very different businesses.

I have a business that offers two uniquely different services. One is local and the other is an online store. My online store website has been around for years and is doing well SEO wise. I am just getting started on my second business venture under the same branding and I am not sure if it would be better to create a completely separate website of perhaps have a landing page that directs people to one or the other to take advantage of established website. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Since your business offers 2 totally different services, divide them up and keep them separate. Spend the small amount of money to get a 2nd website and market the other service separately. What would be the theme of a website that offers 2 totally different services? It's like having an established website that sells landscaping services and adding another section on the site that offers plumbing services. Your visitors more than likely wouldn't see you as a specialist and expert on 1 thing, and will be inclined to choose someone who is.

    I agree with Randall

You must separate the two websites totally.

I cannot even imagine how someone would market "two uniquely different services" with the same brand. So, no, don't do it, Moreover, you'get a nightmare of confused support tickets from confused people.

Now, the way to take advantage of one traffic for the new site/service/product is through EMAIL! Yeah! Good ol' email which is still the best marketing and communication tool in human history, period. I guess if your first site is running well you've acquired an email list from your users or buyers/subscribers. You can implement an email series that will nurture and segment your list and allows you to discover who from your actual list would be great leads for your new products. Best of all it can be totally automated.

You'd not be the first to have several different products to sell online, from different websites.

    Good Luck!

Far too little information is given here to respond with an intelligent answer, There very well be a crossover that makes sense between the two.

For example, one company sells stuffed animals and the other sells birthday party favors. While unrelated, they are still catering to the same type of customer so they ARE related and there is a crossover.

The two previous replies are probably right, though. Build two different websites. Somewhere down the line you may be able to merge them (which is exactly what major online websites like Hayneedle and Wayfair did, combining dozens of individual websites into one).

If nothing else, you can use each business' customer list and use email to let them know about the other one (assuming both businesses have a customer base that is somewhat similar).

Sometime, one might re-read oneself to make sure one's clear and does not unwittingly (I guess) somehow discredit someone else at worst, or sound confused to say the least...

So, finally, the 2 previous answer, were they intelligent enough for the poor information provided after all?

So, finally, the 2 previous answer, were they intelligent enough for the poor information provided after all?
Well, that's why the word "probably" is used, because in many cases, they PROBABLY are, but not all. Again, not enough information so who knows? They may be dead-wrong, as well.

Well, let me rephrase this otherwise then...

My point was that I was trying to let you kindly know to maybe be cautious of what you say/write in a forum, it might happen that one can easily offend someone else if one don't take care.

You sound much like your answer is "the one", and the "two previous replies" were not enough intelligent replies... I mean... ... Got it?

I'm doing business and marketing and development and consulting online for more than 23 years and I believe my answer was perfectly right and intelligent, indeed, enough for the provided information.

We're not here for complete consulting in the forum, so we provide quick answers according to what is asked for providing help as much as possible, but if you believe someone does not provide enough info you can then ASK for more info before answering, OR provide no answer at all if there's not enough info for you.

          Think about it...
          Thanks

Moreover, reread the OP carefully, the first sentence:
"I have a business that offers two uniquely different services."

That is just enough for me for the answer I gave I'm 99% positive.

That is just enough for me for the answer I gave I'm 99% positive.
        Example A:

Business #1 provides human resource services for business clients.

Business #2 provides legal services to business clients.

Two uniquely different services with a very similar if not exactly the same audience. There is a crossover.

        Example B:

        Business #1 provides veterinary services

Business #2 provides referral services to veterans

Two uniquely different businesses that DO NOT have a crossover.

I CANNOT provide an intelligent answer until I know if the person is example A or example B. If you can, I guess we have a different definition of an intelligent answer. My definition is an answer based upon facts and data - something that is missing in the O.P's question.

I certainly did not mean to offend anyone or imply that others' answers were not intelligent. I do question whether or not they made a snap decision based on assumptions when they did not have all the information they might need, however.

I beg to differ, I totally disagree with your examples which are your own interpretation of what is "two uniquely different services" .

There's also another detail in the OP you seem to have missed; ". One is local and the other is an online store." which implies it may also address two totally different markets with the two unique products. You see?

Anyway, I certainly understand your point of view which is not wrong at all, as I said, at this point it's a matter of interpretation and we can still provide intelligent answers based on what we have as information.

I guess, we would end up to agree we disagree.

At this point it probably does not matter. The Original Poster never came back after posting this thread.

well if they are 2 diferent services you need to create another separate service for the second service
Maybe you think you will get traffic from your established website but you will confuse people and it will be bad for seo also
But if the services are in the same category then yea it will work to link them toghether
