Looking for feedback about a domain name

Hi all,

I am building a website/blog about a city that will be named something like The Arlingtonian (it's not about Arlington, but I can't disclose what city this is for yet). The idea is for it to be something like The New Yorker, The Australian, The Economist, The Guardian, etc., so the "The" will be part of the brand. My question is - would arlingtonian or thearlingtonian look and sound better? I am torn because The New Yorker and The Economist don't use the "The" in their domain name, but The Guardian and The Australian do.

What would you all recommend?

Thanks very much!

The brands you quoted were well-known long before the internet, so whatever domain they chose would have been recognizable to their audience.

Starting out, you have to get established, so you need to choose a brand name that you'll be using not just as a domain, but throughout all your marketing, social presence and correspondence.

At this stage it probably doesn't matter whether you put a "the" in front - but whatever you choose, be sure to snap up both domains (even though you'll be using only one of them). You don't want to let a competitor come along later and siphon off your market.

Australian and Guardian are actual words.

    Things like Arlingtonian, Dallasonian,
    Phoenixian, Miamian, etc. are not.

If you are going to use this for your domain
name, don't make it any worse by adding
    a prefix to it.

Actually, all but Phoenxian are real words. People from Phoenix are called Phoenicians.

The New Yorker did well by/ in spite of adding The.

Thank you all! I should have mentioned that both domain names have been purchased, so that's not a concern. It is sounding like using the one without the "the" in it might be better as the brand gets established.

    I appreciate the feedback!

Both,"arlingtonian" and "thearlingtonian" have their own pros and cons.

"Arlingtonian" is shorter and more concise, which can be helpful for branding. It's also the more traditional way to spell the word, which some people may prefer. However, it can be less distinctive, as there are other cities and towns with the same name.

"Thearlingtonian" is more distinctive, as it includes the word "The," which I think is associated with high-quality journalism and media.

IMO the best choice for you will depend on your specific goals for the website/blog. If you're looking for a short, concise name that's easy to remember, "arlingtonian" might be a good choice. If you're looking for a more distinctive name that's associated with high-quality journalism, "thearlingtonian" might be a better choice.

I think the domain name has to re present your business, mines does completely, your complete core beliefs and to choose wisely even it costs a bit extra to purchase

Get both and redirect one. Choose which one you want to use then just re-direct the other to the main site

You're way overthinking this. Buy both and direct to the same server file then split test your traffic generation sources.
