Been struggling with improving my CTR on PPC lately. I have a bit of a tendency to get obsessive about things. Anyway I came up with some really good short copy that really improved my CTR's. So I got to thinking...

I have a lot of listings that are well ranked in the organic SERPS and thought, hey I know I can not measure CTR on organic but it must really suck, and it must have....

I changed up my title tag and description for one of my #1 ranked results. I left in the SEO mandatory stuff but really livened it up with some good copy. And hit it with my pinger last night. It got crawled straight away and my change was indexed.

As a result my traffic has doubled!

If you think about it when you write a PPC add your mission is to get that sucker clicked as often as possible. Organic is no different although for some reason since I was not 'paying' for it I never thought about them in the same way. In reality I paid more because of all of my link building efforts, etc.

Anyway....

Basic stuff that I should have known (well I did but did not implement it) but thought some of you may have been neglecting this as I was...

its true, before you can sell on your site, you have to sell people on your site. That short blurb should be written as a sales letter

Very true...To sell anything you have to get them there first. Save the sales stuff for the sales page. Use your SERP listing to get people to click in and nothing more. Some very valuable but also limited space.

I left a really good hanger in my description. People like to know the answer when presented with a question.

It's working great, I know what I am doing the rest of the night...

This is true. I recently did this with a YT video actually. I had a plain old keyword rich title, and it wasn't getting that many clicks even though I was ranked above the fold. I glanced at the ads next to my listing and copy/pasted someone's ad headline and when Google re-indexed my video my clicks went up.
