Has anyone else done this? Grow either a huge list or have a very popular website (or both) strictly from word of mouth?
I ask because I am in the process of entering into a very competitive niche. And I'm gonna be honest with you, I'm not really looking forward to writing tons of articles and doing all of this keyword research, backlinking, pinging, yada yada yada.
I know everyone thinks this about their own material, so take it for what's it's worth, but the content I am going to provide will be above and beyond what most of the others in the niche are teaching. I can only name a few (can count them on one hand) who I truly respect and think they are providing excellent value to anyone that's willing to use it.
My approach as of now is mostly using video. Providing a free mini 5 (give or take) day course via email. One new lesson a day. Then from there, survey my list and ask them what they want to learn about.
As I'm doing that, I will be working on an ebook. I already started it, but it needs to be finished.
I obviously need to get traffic to my opt in page. And to do that I was just going to write articles and put them on my blog, then submit them to article sites, and post on relevant forums. I don't planning on getting to crazy with keyword research. In fact, I may not do any.
So, again, has anyone here become successful from word of mouth? Providing such great content that word spreads and it just becomes a snowball effect?
