Domain names have existed since the beginning of the internet and has evolved from .com to now hundreds of extensions like .app .ai, and even crypto domains.

What do you think the next stage of domain names will look like?

hard to say but I think "normal" businesses will still prefer a .com domain

.com will always be relevant but .ai will increasingly be popular

Who knows really. There will always be thousands of extensions, and only a handful worth it.

.net .org .me have been around for decades but never got the thumbs up.

If OPENAI's "one answer" model to search results become the INDUSTRY STANDARD, there might be less demand for sites in general.

This is of course bad news for the domain industry

An interesting catch 22... the base data for AI's "Learning" is websites / webpages. If there is a decrease in websites over a period of time, there will be a decrease in data.

I think instead of a name like daily cash dot come or something it's going to be like yungtrap567 dot com or like 2243llc dot com or like 223e2ndstllc dot com

Always .com will be used globally i think there may be no changes would come. Even now there are many companies llike iMeta Technologies a dApp Development company still using .com even after they started ai or .app.

I think too much money is involved in .com domain names and when there's lots at stake its hard to bring it down. (Market Forces)

New trends will come and go but .com will still remain the Number 1 choice of the buyers.

i think the future of domain names will remain as we speak as .com, it been that way since the internet came out since the 1990s, i think it would onlu change dramitacally if they was a new internet came out and wiped off everything as we know, i know they was ment to be a 2nd internet starting from scratch prob just talk, for me .com have the best authority, .org as authority if its a major cop

Whatever domain is, top level domain will be high priority of all time. As it's now tough to find short character length, in future it will be more and more tough.

As others have said .com will be dominant but niche extensions will still apply (.dev for developers, .app for apps, etc). However something not discussed is that I believe cybersquatting may become more expensive and perhaps less appealing.

.com domains have gone up to $17 for renewals recently and I believe this will only increase. Whilst I realize this isn't that much higher than the traditional $10 once inflation is catered into the mix, cybersquatters will need to think twice of holding even valued .com domains in their portfolio if they're not intending to do anything with them for years.

With hundreds of tlds to choose from, it's easy to ignore usually absurdly high ask prices and just go with a tld that fits the desired product/niche instead, even if it isn't as coveted as .com.

I agree, too many domain buyers are squatting hoping to cash in on many (*if not) most of the .com(s) these days...

I guess depending on their intended use or dreams of getting 4,5, and 6 figure payouts for a single domain name... it has become an epidemic of sorts... I think with the rising renewals costs - there will be more domains (.coms and top level TLD's) available... At least I hope so, for now - I'll settle for the .net or other domains myself.

  • Whatevah the com, the IRL relevance of yannowill determine WHAT precedes the DOT.

You jus' gotta watch for yumsy combinations ain't nevah been seen before.

Which is kinda like sayin' WAKE UP TAMARA, SEE WHATCHA GAHT, I guess.

  • I foresee .com still be prevalent and relevant, but .ai is on the rise. However, folks will opt to have popular domain names related to what they sell - with a custom extension just so they can secure the relevant domain part.
