how to create a niche site

hi

So I've found a keyword I would like to create a niche site for!

I think I will create about 5 - 10 pages of content for the site.

But not sure if I should make a blog out of it or not.

alternative #1
intro page and blog
- not sure I can generate unique content all the time for keeping the blog alive....

alternative #2
I remove the blog from the site and create unique pages for every article.
but here I don't know how to remove the blogging functionality from wordpress... Because this is baed wordpress 2.8.5

any suggestions?

blog or website are both good.

If your planning on making multiple pages be sure to optimize each page for one keyword so that you can attract the correct audience and not dilute your SEO efforts.

Normally if I am going to create a web site with multiple pages I try to find different keywords to optimize for and pull them into my main site.

Example: If your site is going to be about Dogs and your main keyword is "dog training"

Then possible web pages could be anything from "dog training techniques" or "dog training quick tips"

    etc , etc.

I would stay with the blog format because it is easier to optimize for SEO. If you don't think you can keep the content coming then install a syndication plugin, search digg.com articles related to your keyword and copy the feed into your site. This will keep content coming but you should try to ad some on your own every once in a while.

If you need help shoot me an email, I'll be glad to step you through it.

  • Blog
Static front page with good quality content and SEO'd pics. 500 words or more
Put your smaller blog posts on the blog page. Use those posts to target your various keywords. Just make sure to optimize them.

Nice post mate. I use a similar structure to this, and it works guys.

Many methods will work, I just find this one best to suit my style.

It really depends on the niche and how you plan to monetize it. If its an adsense site for example a blog style post may not be recommended. If you are promoting a Clickbank product like anxiety for example then a blog may be more appropriate as it gives ita bit more of a personal touch which is important if you want to create a relationship with your visitor.

Type your niche into Google and check what type of sites you find on the first page and the sponsored listings.

    Good Luck

If your going for a niche content site to promote adsense, I would suggest creating a content site with Xsite Pro. It is really simple to do with this program but if you don't have it and don't know html/design then you could just go for the wordpress blog with static front page. If you are promoting clickbank definitely go for a wordpress blog like Dave d said and add some content, but make the first page and site url/title etc. a review type site. Review a few clickbank products in the same niche and you will see much better conversions than just a content site promoting clickbank. hope it helps

From my understanding I have to pay an amount for downloading and using Xsite Pro. I don't have that money now... maybe on my next niche site I can use Xsite Pro

I think it does depend on what kind niche you are going into and who you plan to make money.

I advise doing some market research and seeing what other people are doing. Try Googling your keywords and checking out how many ads are running for your niche and also type in keywords in clickbank to see what kind of products are selling and if they seem to be doing any good.

intro pages are not the best way to create "niche" site unless you have single product that you are trying to sell !

Alternative 2 can surely help , by having 5-10 featured post on the niche with related affiliate products on the sidebar or within the posts . If you are looking for ready made niche sites check out my signature !

There is no difference between a blog and a site. It's just the backend you use to make the site and it has some options like rss feeds on the fly, interaction (if you want ) by allowing comments etc and tons of plugins and templates.
But if you look at the basics wordpress is just a tool to create sites...how you use that site is all up to you. There is no rule that says"this is a powered by wordpress" site so you have to update it every x days. The you have to update it or else is a myth. Take a look at the sourcecode it's still html and the search engines aint going to say because you have a "wordpress site" it has to be updated or else.
Yes it's better to have fresh content but that s for all type of sites and not just blogs/sites powered by wordpress. I have wordpress sites build 3 years ago, never touched and still ranking

Having said that...use wordpress for these reasons
    1. clean code
    2. plugins to make it very very seo optimized
    3. rss feeds
    4. easy to use
    5. 2 minute setup
    6. it's free

I think the quality of your blog or website is the most important. So if you decide to start your blog or website, you should try your best to do it well.As to promotion, there are also many ways for you to choose. You'd better make a specific budget and then start your promotion campaign.

I agree with you Edwin. My main consideration which platform to use when setting up the site is what I want to do with it. Like do I want to create an adsense site with 5-7 pages and then let it be? Then I'd usea HTML platform for it. Of course before I leave it I'll build backlinks like crazy and try to have it ranked high (in its keyword) in the SERPs then visit once in a while to add new content and more backlinks.

If a want a site where I need to interact with my visitors, like for an affiliate product< I'd definitely go for a wordpress platform.

I used Market Samurai to discover the keyword. I found a keyword with high volume of monthly search and few competing pages.

I've look at the competing sites. looks like few are using adsense and the rest isn't using any advertising (not any I can see on the site)

I've created 2 niche sites before and they are doing not so well. So I'm eager to do it well this time. The reason my 2 first didn't go as well is that I didn't do any market research first. They are some of the most saturated markets with millions of competing pages. Also those 2 niche sites was created by my self (i did all the coding in addition to content). So I read that Google loves WordPress and it's easier to get ranked well using wordpress compared to coding by myself... so that's also an considuration I have to take when choosing to use wordpress or not...

I think I go for a combination of static pages and a blog. On the static pages I have my long articles (500 words), and in the blog I post smaller articles...

I used Market Samurai to research the keyword, see the attached file.
I didn't just come up with thre keyword out of the blue, I just found a niche and started to research the related keywords... I had a list of 200 potential keywords which I've narrow done to a few I think can be worth creating a niche site for... relatively high monthly search and few competing pages

I like it. But I don't like that my free trail period has experied. I've seen that Black-Hat-World.com (remove the -) has a tread where they compare MS with another tool. I haven't read that thread, but maybe it can be of interest for you.
Also this is the first niche will do (or try to do) based on research done in MS

I like that MS analysis the backlinks on competing sites, the sites you have to compete with for #1 on Google, it report how good the backlinks are... How many PR0 - PR10

Then it help me find content to fill my niche site with...

So I recommend it, but haven't used any competing tool... so not sure how good MS is compared to other tools available on the market today

Honestly, you don't need that many articles. I surely wouldn't add all of that content right away...

Just go with the blog setup, make 3 posts, which are articles. Then slowly add the other 7 or so articles slowly over time.

If you choose the right niche, you won't need to add content daily. Slower is better!
