Does blog commenting work?

Have you seen any results by directing traffic via commenting in blogs. I realize the backlinks value but don't think serious amount of traffic can be generated.

It depends what your objective is. If you want actual traffic, you'd need to stick to blogs in your particular niche. If you just want backlinks, post anywhere and who cares about the meager traffic.

If you want traffic then make a genuine contribution to the post. Use your name or pen name for the link most of the time. If you find one that you think that you can pass moderation with an achor text name, then try once and a while.

  • It absolutely works. If you do it on the same blog several times, sometimes the blogger will add you to their blogroll. That's a big boost if the blogroll shows up on every page and they have 500 pages on their blog.

Yes, this. Also I've had people visit my site from the comment I made then quote me in a new post of their own. I had a highly trafficked site do this and while the comment link itself didn't get me much traffic, their link to my blog in an actual post did bring in a bunch of new visitors.

Of course this only works if you are linking to a quality site or blog. The people who drop comments on my site that link back to a blog that has a bunch of scraped content aren't getting onto my blogroll any time soon. I also delete comments with in-comment links to porn, WoW gold sellers or otherwise spammy-looking sites.

I would add that bloggers are noticing when people leave insincere comments, like "thanks for posting this.." or something else vague just to get traffic.

When commenting blogs, I recommend mentioning something specific you liked or didn't about the blog or give relevant information.

Blog commenting defintely works. I still get traffic from comments I left on blogs 2 years ago. A little trick I do is use the blog post url that i want to promote. Don't just use your main url. Then I bookmark the blog that I left the comment on to indirectly boost my site rankings up. Works great over time!

Initially the traffic from blog commenting is not that much but if you make it a habit to leave a comment on every blog you read, over time it can reap benefits.

That typically only happens if the comment you've left was junk or obvious spam.

Akismet catches a lot of those too. Plus, I have posts on my blog that are completely useless, so if someone posts a comment thanking me for it or saying how useful it was, I know those "people" are spammers or, more likely, bots. If they slip thru Akismet, I'll happily nuke 'em.

for the guy who said he leaves comments on Youtube videos? If you are reading this (or anyone else) How do you leave your "linkback"? Do you make a quick comment then at the end just have your website there? I tried this a few times but my comments never showed up. Thoughts?

It can work like a charm. Here are a few recommendations for those who want to give it a shot.

      1. Be the first person there. If you have the first comment, it will draw better than the 24th. Monitor your feeds and strike while the iron is hot.

      2. Target blogs that are clearly relevant to your site. You'll get more traffic and it will actually be the kind of folks you want to visit your site.

      3. Target sites that consistently generate comments and discussion. That demonstrates that the sites' readers are more likely to check out what other people are saying and it points to a higher overall level of exposure for your comments.

      4. Look for sites that use CommentLuv and similar plug-ins. These will clearly display your latest post, which improves comment performance.

      5. Write something meaningful. That requires more than being on-point and demonstrating that you're a real reader. Supply something valuable and/or sincerely engage in discussion.

Works well. look for blogs that get over 100 comments per post. When you find it get comment sniper and when a new post goes up be the first to comment on it and make it of high quality you'll get traffic and people contacting you fresh leads.

For me, the wine niche is fairly small so blog commenting can work. I try to comment on the top 5-10 blogs in the niche whenever they post new content. Typically I get some basic traffic from those, but for me it has given me some good connections within the industry. I'm starting to see some SEO help from it now as the postings are hitting the 3 month old mark.

Of course, your mileage may vary and mine is not a usual case.

Most of the comments on all of my blogs are marked as spam and deleted, even those who think they are fooling you that say ... very well researched post. I'll bookmark you and blah blah blah. If a comment isn't real and relevant, it's gone and 99% of them are poor attempts to make someone think they are real.

Yes it does work. In fact I often get traffic from other blogs that become readers, and link back.

Most of what I do has already been said, with one addition. Don't just post and leave it. engage the conversation. return to the blogs you post on and read the other comments. Don't just post on the actual blog post but respond to other comments as well. This will help people to see that you are paying attention to what has already been said.

If you do it right, it can be a great source of traffic, and an easy way to meet people within your niche.

I have seen good traffic from blog posting. To be successful you will need to have other ways of driving traffic as well such as PPC, article marketing, SEO, etc.

To get good results from blog posting, you need to target high traffic blogs, and contribute on a regular basis. The more posts you do, the better results you will have.

If you do the following you WILL get traffic:

    1) Be one of the first few commenters on a post
    2) Post something RELEVANT
    3) Create interest in your link, or say something interesting about yourself so people hover over your name and think about clicking ..

I will say that if you identify some well linked to pages, it can give you a bump if you do it consistently. I can attest to the fact that it DOES work.

If anything, it is good because it gives you link diversity. You want to spread out your link profile to as many different ip's as possible. It's very helpful with that. Don't get too wrapped around the details of follow vs. no-follow. Because, even a no-follow can help you with the diversity of your link profile. Good luck.

    hey,
blog posting is without a doubt worthwhile and good at getting a lot of traffic to your blog when done over time. Some of the leading blogging experts all say the same thing, You should spend more time posting to other people's blogs than writing your own. why? Blog posting gets your blog out there and when done with relevant info and consistently over time, can be the difference between making money blogging and not. You should def spend at least 3-4 days a week posting to other people's blogs.
    Good Luck
