Hi guys,

I would like to hear your opinion on what are the people that
search for 'online business' actually looking for.

Is it better to offer them IM products/memberships such as PLR ebooks etc. or more general 'make money online' and 'wahm' products, such as
surveys, affiliate income products, etc?

Those people typing 'online business' into google search box are looking
for sometning, but what exactly?

    I could give an opinion...but...

The best one would be to ask those visitors directly.

Run an Adwords campaign for a few hundred and run a survey

    just a thought

I have a website that is within IM, offering an IM oriented membership
and some IM oriented products, that receives several thousands
unique visitors per month only from keyword 'online business' and
'online business opportunity' but the conversion is very low.

Recently I got one opinion that more general 'make money from home'
products, such as 'paid surveys' and similar, would convert much better from that keyword.

I need to know what exactly they are looking for in order to properly
      monetize this site.

All opinions and suggestions are welcome.

        Hi Alminc,

I have a website that is within IM, offering an IM oriented membership and some IM oriented products, that receives several thousands unique visitors per month only from keyword 'online business' and
'online business opportunity' but the conversion is very low.
I find the best way to try and understand these problems, is to put the keyword tools away and scrap that mindset temporarily, and just ponder it logically.

This would lead me to suggest that perhaps many of the searches you see for the term on it's own (online business) could be from other marketers who are doing research, and that the reason this term appears in the keyword tools at all (in general) is because it has other words around it (like in your example, with 'opportunity' on the end), plus I would consider how it is being used with other words around it, but with the main phrase reversed - 'business online'.

Logic suggests to me that this term would have a lower conversion, and that for your type of market, other terms are more targetted.

Hm, I didn't think about other marketers searching for it.

The best solutions are often the simplest (and usually the cheapest).

Use Google Wonder Wheel. (it'll show you what people typed in, and where they ended up, which gives you a solid idea of what they were looking for)

        Could be:

        • Opportunity seekers
        • Business owners wanting to take their biz online
        • People looking to buy web sites
        • etc.

It's a pretty broad phrase. I suppose you could optimize a separate adwords campaign targeting each possible market and observe which one(s) get the highest CTR and conversions.

  • Go to Google.com, Type in 'online business', Click search, More Options appears in the upper left, Click on More options, Search Menu appears on the left hand side, Click on FORUMS OR Wonder Wheel. Hope this helps.
