Email doesn't work now I've moved site from one host to another

Hi Gang

I've moved a friend's site from one host over to Hostgator. He has an email like info@whatever.com but of course now it doesn't work. To fix this I assume this is to do with the original place where the domain was registered, not with the new hosting company?

DOH?? Sorry, I've nevr used email like this, I just use gmail lol

Cheers,
Phil

What do you mean by 'it doesn't work'?
Are emails sent to this address returned with host not found?

I never used hostgator, do you get cpanel with hosting with them?

    Hi there

My mate said they are bouncing back. The site was hosted at ipower, but I've moved it to hostgator, yep they have cpanel. I'm not sure if the email is to do with the domain registration place or with the hosting??

    Thanks,
    Phil

You need to (re)create that email account at the new host.
cPanel > Mail: Email Accounts etc.

After that he will start receiving the messages.

    Hi Phil

You will need to go into the Hostgator account - cpanel - email accounts and set the emails up again as these types of emails are usually held with the host account.

    It's very easy to do.

Yes I agree with Istvan Horvath and LesleyJohnston

try and use the same username and password for the email account as before to save having to alter them in outlook or some other desktop mail program if used.

    Just for clarification:
    1. You don't need to delete anything form the original host.
    2. You don't need to use the same pw.
    3. Since the "username" is your email (in the OP example "info") - you need to create the email account at the new host with the same username to get the messages.

I think you only need to ask your new hosting provider to help you add an entry of your email account, and then everything will be ok.It has no relationship with your domain registration.
