We can't emphasize more about the importance of marketing communications. It's how we reach out to our customers, after all.
  • 81% of consumers unsubscribe from brands that bombard them with marcoms.
  • Moreover, 32% have unsubscribed from 3-5 brands in the past three months; 22% more have unsubscribed from 6-10 brands; 12% called it quits with more than 10.
  • 35% of consumers find email marketing as the most irritating form of over-communication.
  • 26% find SMS messaging intrusive.
  • 14% think mobile and web push notifications, and web ads annoying.

Make that of what you will. Chime in.

I think ppc, which tailors ads based on interest, and retargeting, which is based on past behaviour, are two great improvements to this problem over the last ten years.

I think by giving customers the optipns to select on what and how much ads they want to see or get, can be a good way to start. Also letting customers to give feedback about the ads could also be helpful.

I know that this has been on for years. One example, Google used to give us the options for ad preferences, and a feedback feature as well.

      Is this still on?

  • Only 26% consider SMS messages intrusive? I thought it was 99%... In general, it's a funny fact that I've observed on myself and my friends: we unsubscribe from brands when they stop being interesting to us, but because we get tired of them. Because when we are interested, we are ready to communicate with the brand everywhere, you see. People may just get tired of the brand, not of communicating with it.

35% of consumers find email marketing as the most irritating? That's still a pretty great stats because I hate random emails from brands especially when it is excessive.
