My first $500+ day in internet marketing! I am totally hooked!

Hey Warriors!

I'm literally freaking out right now. I first got started in IM about 6 months ago, and ever since then, I have been dreaming about the day I make $500 in one day off my IM business.

Well today is the FIRST time I did it through IM, and I am totally floored. Not only did I make $500, but I did it within 2-3 hours.

Words cannot describe how I feel right now - it's a mixture of being high and my mind racing with ways I can do it bigger, better, and faster.

What is really cool to me is that I reached this mark WAY faster than I thought I would. I thought for sure it would take me a year plus to make my mark, but it came a lot faster.

I just wanted to share my story with you all, because I know Warriors can appreciate it a lot better than people who know nothing about IM. I have told a couple of my friends and the best response I have gotten so far was 'cool'. I guess they can't relate to how I feel right now.

----------------------------------------------------
Here is what I did...
----------------------------------------------------

You know all that stuff about building up a list - particularly a list of buyers?

Well it works.

I didn't really believe it until today, and I haven't had much success with it until now(and I know why looking back). All the money that I made today was made off my own list, no external advertising, no JVs, nothing. Just my own personal list of subscribers.

I had a really small list in a couple MMO niches.

I had about 850 freebie subscribers, and roughly 150 or so buyers total.

I got most of my buyers through a course that I sell which adds about 2-5 new buyers to my list each day.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Then I created a product that relates to my list.
-----------------------------------------------------------

I made a second product that compliments my original one that I thought my buyers would find useful.

I had a lot of questions regarding a certain technique that I taught in my original course, so I figured I could address all those questions in a comprehensive course.

All I did was make a 40 page guide with some video and charged a really cheap price at $17.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Here is where the magic is - build up anticipation.
-----------------------------------------------------------

This is a new technique I tried for the first time and I think it is solely responsible for the success of my mini-launch to my own list.

I created 3 emails sent out over 7 days building up the anticipation for my 'launch'.

Email on day 1 went something along the lines of:

'Hey guys...i got a new product coming out based off the massive response I got from my current customers regarding _______. It's coming out in 7 days, keep an eye out.'

Email on day 4 went like:

'Hello....just a reminder I got a new product coming out in the next few days. It will do this, this, and this, for you. Oh btw, I only have 50 copies I can sell at $17. After that, it will be raised to $27 or $37.[this is the truth]Keep an eye out for my launch email in the upcoming days so you can get it at this special rate'

Email on day 7 went like this:
[this was on accident mind you, but I really think it helped with sales]

'hello....having some technical difficulties so unfortunately I will not be able to make my promised launch date today. However, I am 100% certain that tomorrow at 6.00pm it will be totally ready to purchase [insert scarcity].'

Then on my official launch date, I sent out 2 emails with different subject lines letting them know the flood gates are open, and that they should buy it soon.

That's basically it. No freebies, no video, no nothing. Just plain old email message letting them know what is up.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Key number 2 - make good stuff.
--------------------------------------------------------------

I think this is also an important factor. You must make good products. I noticed that most of the buyers of my new product also bought my first product.

So that tells me that my first product was good, or else they wouldn't have bought my second one.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Points you can go away with.
--------------------------------------------------------------
  • Build list - it doesn't have to be big, and you don't have to be a leet email marketer either. I suck at list building and email marketing, yet I still met all my expectations for launch.
  • Provide good products, personally answer all questions from your buyers - this helps build trust, relationship, etc.
  • Build anticipation 7 days before launch.
  • Insert REAL scarcity when applicable(sp?).
  • Buyers > Freebie seekers.
  • People say these tips for a reason.
And that's really all there is too it. Now obviously all of this stuff didn't happen over night. I spent about 2 months building my list and about 1 month building the new product.

Next product I make I aim to atleast quadrupal my results that I saw today.

I learned so much doing this simple product launch that I think I really can reach that goal next time. My first $2000 day here I come!

To you newbies out there - just do something. Just because you are new to this game doesn't mean you can't make money or that you don't have something to contribute.

All of my products are nothing new. Im sure the topics that I cover have been beaten to death already, yet I still have people thanking me for what I taught them. The only difference is that I used my 'newbie' status to my advantage. I basically pitched my goods as 'hey look, Im no guru. I just started x mounts ago, but I managed to make x,xxx. want to know what I did?'

So instead of using my newbie status in a negative light, I focused on the positive - That I am new, I do all of this stuff right now, I know it works, it's easy, here's how.

This is one of the most important aspects. Just do something! Even if the project is a flop, the learning process is valuable, and you are one step closer to success. Take that step, do something move forward an learn.

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

    Congrats to you!

Actually interacting with your lists is VERY beneficial. I send out emails to my lists asking if they need help with anything or need me to go over a certain topic with them. When people write back it allows you to peak inside the minds of your customers. And if you see a recurring question/topic coming up, now you know what to base your next product off of.

Quick tip for you...find out who didn't open up your emails. And then send them your offer again, just change the subject line. Since they didn't open up your other email, they won't know it's the same one. You should be able to make a few more sales this way.

Thanks for sharing this tip... how do you know when someone hasn't opened your email?

Daniel: I am so thrilled to see this thread!!! And you are quite an inspiration to those of us that have not been successful. Taking action and following through is definitely the key to making it work ... and the hardest part when life gets in the way. But you have definitely given me hope and I will excel from here!!! Keep up the great work... onward and upward as a good friend of mine use to say!! :-)

Well I use Aweber. Not sure if other AR's have this feature. This is how in Aweber.

It's under the Subscribers. Just do a search for emails that weren't opened.

    Good work!

Next step is to sell something for $500 to 1 person, that's euphoria. Then move on to $1000 per sale, and my biggest so far personally $3,000 for 1 transaction =)

I'm working my way up to higher ticket items like that. Right now I am just focusing on cheaper items for buyer list building purposes.

My next step is a $77 product. From there I was thinking about bundling up all the products I created and making selling it as a OTO for like $147.

I still got a long way to go for that $500 product though lol. I guess I could always do some sort of coaching program, but I don't really consider that as 'cool' to sell.
I like the idea of making something valuable and having people pay me for it. Coaching is more of a service type thing.

Although it would be pretty cool to sell 50 x $500 coaching plans lol.

Why is high ticket so hard?

Here's how to set up a basic coaching program with emails...

On all your buyers list make a spectacular offer and say you'll get on a phone call for an hour and answer any question they have...

"Usually you charge, 500 dollars an hour (or whatever rate you can justify with sales proof) and then give it to em at half price.

You have skype so you can record it with Pamela and give them the recording for extra value (listen over and over and take more notes)

This is "high ticket" in a lot of circles and since people have bought from you already...then you're golden...they have a CC and they like you so some will want to do this..."

So here's how I'd structure an email like this.

        ---------------------------------------

        Hey (Name),

I appreciate that you've bought "Product XYZ" from me in the past. Your business and trust is very much appreciated.

I want to make you a very special offer that I'm limiting to the first 10 people who purchase (if you have even a small list you will get these slots filled).

As you may know, I've done "A, B, and C" (all proof that you're an expert basically) and I've shared with you a lot of great content.

However, I'd like to help you repeat my success.

So here's what I'm going to do...

Since my time is valuable and I charge $500 an hour for consulting (or w/e rate that's higher) and many people have asked for access to me (social proof but only use if it's true...never ever lie) many people can't afford to pay me that.

However, I want to help as many people as I possibly can, so for only 250$ I will get on a call for an hour and answer ANY question you may have. I'll also give you the recording of this call so you can listen over and over.

I must limit this to the first 10 people who respond and this email is going to over (your list size here) so be sure to take action right now....

(Insert link or directions to contact you for offer)

        Cheers,

        Daniel

        -------------------------------------------

That's a basic email template for this coaching offer...it has scarcity, social proof, authority, and commitment and consistency so you're hitting all the major points of influence (liking is there to so now it's complete)

That's all you ahve to do buddy...you have the buyers now monetize the ones who are raving fans.

If you need any more help with this...please PM me and we'll chat on skype or through Private messages)

        Best Wishes,

        Brad Spencer

Thanks for the support everyone It really means something to me(no joke). I went out to celebrate last night...I was feeling awesome the whole entire time(Although today is a little rough hah).

I like this idea of doing well one night and going out and celebrating lol. I think I'm going to work so I have something to celebrate every day because it sure was fun.

    Vagabond007,

I definitely plan to follow up tomorrow after thanksgiving with a 'last chance' style email that basically will say something like:
'hello, only 5 copies left. just letting you know if you want to get it at my special price you should probably do it now because I dont think these copies will last much longer'.

I am curious to see what this email can do for me. Some people have said you can get another 30-50% of the launch day sales, which would be pretty cool to see considering how well it did on launch day.

    Murphsmurf,

While I have no proof that my 'false' launch email did me any benefit, I like to think it did. There is this gaming company that makes these games that everyone goes nuts about, right? Well they always say stuff like 'the game will be available on nov 01'.

Then when you get a few days before it they are like 'sorry but we wont be releasing this until december 30th as we want to make sure everything is perfect'

By the time you get to the real launch date, you think 'COME ON JUST SELL IT TO US ALREADY!'

Maybe I am wrong about this, but based on the results I got on my launch day I think it helped.

I also ended up making more than I originally posted that day.
At the end of the day I totaled $750 sales so I did much better than when I first started this thread. Add in my affiliate sales and I am looking at a 800+ day yesterday.

So maybe I should set my goal for my next product launch day at $3000+

My next technique I am trying to develop is how to get JVs for launch, but I think I want to get another product launch under my belt before I start having other people mail for me. Seeing all the problems that I during my launch, I certainly don't want to piss any partners off with any technical problems I didn't iron out before hand.

Yes, you will most likely see an influx of last minute orders.

But, and this is just my opinion, use something else besides "only 5 copies left." It's a digital product. There are more than 5 copies left.

Use something more believable. Hell, I would even say "Why is the price going up after the next 5 are sold? Because I can ;-)" before I said only 5 are left. At least I'm being honest.

      Just something to think about.

That's what I meant - 5 copies at the discount price left.

I am not a big fan of the fake scarcity thing. Seeing how all your previous efforts directly relate to your product launch, if your buyers know your scarcity is BS, then it won't be anywhere near as effective.

I am just speculating on this, as I have never used scarcity before besides for the launch I did yesterday. But I am willing to bet I am right.

Well that's the thing, NEVER fake it. That's one of my biggest pet peeves, fake scarcity.

Roughly 2 months like I stated in my OP.

Built mostly from a freebie that I offered + a cheap feeder product that I used to build my buyers list.

After checking my stats, I noticed that over 80% of my buyers for my second course were all buyers of my first, which basically tells me that buyers list is WAY better than freebie list.

One thing that really held me back was the topic of getting JVs. I was spending too much effort/time on trying to find JVs to promote my stuff, that I neglected building my own list.

So I said to myself, 'screw it I'll just build my own list - forget trying to beg these guys for access to theirs'.

Now that I have a list that is being built, I feel like I will have a much better chance of getting a JV partner because now I have something I can offer them in return.

I read so many threads about JVs being the most profitable aspects(which im sure it is), it's just that the advice was coming from people who neglected to tell you that they had all sorts of assets they could work with.

"Yeah...You just go out and gets JVs to promote your product".

Please. If only it were that easy.

How many newbies have resources like that?

That's what I realized and shifted my focus towards list building, instead of piggy backing.

      Food for thought.

      -Daniel Brock

P.S. Glad you all found my post insiprational - that's kind of what I was going for when I wrote it. I know the power that these threads have - especially if you are doubting whether or not the whole MMO thing is doable still(and it totally is)!

Good on you! It is awesome to see that you had a goal and worked to reach it- but didn't stop there. I think that is an awesome lesson - you don't need to get to where you are going in a single bound. Chunk it down and do it step by step! Congrats and good luck with the $2000 milestone :-)

    Daniel,

Congrats on your success. However, I was just wondering if you've prepared for December 1st? You know, the day the FTC starts enforcing the new disclosure rules for affiliate marketers and bloggers.

What type of disclosure are you going to use on your review sites to let people know that you are paid a commission when they buy? What's your strategy?

    Regards,
    Johnny

      Hope and Pray LOL.

But seriously, I am going to put disclaimers right underneath any claims I make saying something like 'these are MY results. By no means average. I did this this and this to get them'

      Something along those lines.

As for my affiliate sites, I will be putting income disclaimers on each page in very visible places.

      Brad Spencer,

That is a really good idea. I had an idea that you could do something like that, as long as you can make it worthwhile. I will definitely try and add this in on my next launch or promo. Thanks for the tip

      petelta,

The traffic seems to be your problem. It sounds like you have everything in a row - nice give away, opt in, etc. The traffic is what you need. I would focus on that personally.

      um1001,
You are totally right about that. I realized after my launch email(based off the questions I got from my list) that they were not really sure of the details of the product, or if it was something similar to what they already bought from me.

I still did really well for this launch, but I think I could have saw a lot more orders if I did what you said.

Oh well - I will just do better next time. I kind of like making these mistakes because it helps me really learn a lot.

Thanks for the comments guys and girls, and I hope you all found this thread to be just the nudge you needed to get rolling.

Johnny, you just saved me a TON of time trying to find the right way to go about this.

The fact is, I have been dreading addressing this issue for the past month and a half. Tomorrow I am going to have to spend an entire day of work updating my 50+ websites I have floating around out there.

          Not fun at all.

I will definitely be notifying my list of that video as well.

          Thanks again!

          wisdom,
I remember seeing an interview with John Reese and Frank Kern talking about how when they first got started they they did some sort of launch or something and they made like $2k in one day and that ever since then they were never able to top the high they felt off their first success.

Frank even said that he felt better on that day than he did when he launched that Stompernet program that banked him $1million in a single day.

One small success is all you need. My brain has completely re-wired itself since my launch I did the other day. It's so crazy how much my thoughts have changes since then. I am now in a bigger and better mode and I am now working like a complete fiend on my IM business. Yesterday I spent 8 hours straight working and I have never, to that day, worked a full 8 hours on ANYTHING work related in my life.

It just goes to show that one small success can have a HUGE impact on you. It certainly has for me.

Yep! You are right - I learned about the step launch from Jeff Walker in that one Free case study that he is no longer giving away. The one about the guy who launched that plant game board thing.

Nice job with the success. Im wondering what techniques you have used to drive people to you list? I see you gave away a free incentive. Did you market the freebie to direct people to your optin page? Any landing page or just a form on the sidebar?

I'm about 6 months into IM myself but I've not been 100% invested into it like I should be so my success is miniscule so far. I've recently switched my focus on building my list and could use any tips you may have on getting that traffic. I give away a free 8 week program when they sign up but I'm still having trouble getting enough traffic even to see the offer.

I'm actually on Daniel's list and saw this coming a mile away. Congrats to you! The only thing I would comment on is... I think you would have sold even more product if you'd have explained it a bit better in the list. I didn't know anything about the product except the obvious title. Maybe I missed the email explaining it but that's the nature of e-mail. It should maybe have been in every one of them.

Thats pretty cool, I think your next 'big day' will probably be 4 figures at least.

    I'm a firm believe in that, if you focus your mind on something specific - it will automatically work to find a solution or a way to achieve it. Even if you're not consciously aware of it. I have a couple of questions though;

Do you have a website where I can opt into your buyers list?

Also, do you promote stuff to your 'freebies' list too? Or is that seperate?

Sorry for the delay on answering your questions - I thought I replied but I guess I was dreaming or something lol.

I totally agree with you about focusing your mind on your goal long enough that it will eventually unconsciously get you there. It does take conscious effort to get your mind into that state, but once you are there it really gets into overdrive automatically.

It really is amazing. I sent you a PM in regards to my opt in.

And yes, I do promote whatever it is I am trying to sell to my entire lists(as long as they are interested in what I am trying to sell obviously). I do have them separated though so that I know who my buyers are and who my freebies are.

      MarketingSPY,

Go ahead, tell them about the thread. These aren't new techniques by any means - in fact there is probably a thread a week created about this stuff.

      Basic, but VERY effective.

IM reminds me of fighting very much. Your basic techniques are what win fights. When you try the flashy cool looking stuff(IE moving onto the next shinny object), you get your ass kicked. That's why I drill my basic techniques over and over and over again, because they work, and I can count on them.

      ramone_johnny,

Seems like you are making progess. If I remember correctly, the last thread I created you were just getting started and you are right on my tail already. Good stuff!
