Hey guys I have been wondering this question for a while and thought it wont hurt to ask. Okay here it is. If I searched a keyword on the google keyword tool and here are my results:

Local Search Volume: October
Not Enough Data

Global Monthly Search Volume
22,200

Searched it one google with quotes and there is 37,400 in competition and about the same without quotes.

Is this a profitable keyword? I know there are some other factors, but just looking by the #s what do you think?

Thanks
Moe

Global search is Good enough to go for that keyword but if your target audience is local then you need to think again..

Well its a trick question, from what you have told here,
looks like your keyword has decent traffic volume,
and according to the serp compitition you should get on
      top easily..

But whether the keyword is profitable depends on other factors,
      such as:
Is your keyword related to the offer you have in mind?
(It doesn't make any sense if your site is about fat loss, and keyword
is about fat celebrities, it has to be targeted)

when the user types that keyword what is it they have in mind?
(Do they have a problem, and do you have the solution for that problem)

Are there any competing adwords advertisers for that keyword?
(If no then its a negative sign, there should e atleast two,
and if there are ,then for how long they
have been advertising on that keyword,
if its greater than 30 days then the keyword might be profitable)

Answer these questions and you'll have a better idea...

If you want to monetize it, then it's not a good one. It has negligible searches in your own country, and the global searches are very low. The competition is high (37k) and that might just rip you off!

Why would it rip him off? its not like he is planning on paying for that keyword
its free traffic he is going after, and the keyword has decent searches globally, that should land him with 30-50% of traffic if he lands on position
1 for that keyword, thats 10000 additional visitors that he wouldn't have got if it wasn't for that keyword...(IF THE KEYWORD IS TARGETED TOWARDS HIS OFFER)

Number of local searches should be considered if what he's offering is local, otherwise its not relevant..

Plus and I am sure of it, its not just that single keyword he is going after so it doesn't make any sense to leave it out just because there is no
      data for local search...

And last but not the least, not everyone has the budget or the time that it takes to rank for high traffic keywords such as weight loss( unless you have a lot of money to spend on SEO)

If you have figured out a way to rank for these highly competitive keywords then kindly enlighten me, I would really appreciate it, and so would other warriors..
