I read somewhere that the FTC will soon disallow affiliates to create stories that help to presell a particular product.
(Creating a fake person and fabricate fake results)

Is it true? If so, wouldn't affiliate marketing be much harder now?

  • "Creating a fake person and fabricate fake results" I think that has always been not allowed.

    The biggest change I can see is that you can no longer give results that are above normal as part of your examples.
  • basically anything that promises anything that not everyone can attain is not allowed anymore.
  • I would recommend you actually read the FTC regulations & apply it to your business as such.

    In a nutshell, you simply need to back up your claims if your product or service provides claims a result. Additionally, if your customers ask, & even if you state that in your marketing & promotion pieces, that data needs to be completely transparent.
    What that means is, a prudent person should be able to backtrack your claims of the revenue made back to the transaction being claimed.

    Think of it as transparent internal audit....if you know what that is.

    Bottom line, be truthful 100% in what your selling.
  • and if you are an affiliate, you have to state on your page that you receive compensation for your promotions. If you are reviewing a product and got a free review copy you are required to disclose that as well.

      This website/blog collects commissions from a successful sale of Product A.

      Something like that?
    • It took a lot of split testing for me to get decent conversion rates after disclosing my affiliate relationship. It's going to be really tricky running a Google Adwords campaign and making all the proper disclosures.
