This Drives Me Crazy!!!

Am I the only one?

<rant>

I open up an interesting thread here on the Warrior Forum. The OP contributes with a well written and thought out post giving value back to the forum. Not some short one sentence blurb, but really meaningful content, and most times way over 1,000 words.

I scroll down the thread to read the replies and contribute to the conversation when I run across one or more *Idiots* who just lazily hits the frickin' quote button on the OP's first post. This now copies the OP's TOTAL original post (ALL 1,000+ words) into his or her reply, and then they do not edit it down to the sentence or paragraph that they wish to comment on.

Nooooooooooo, let's plug up the thread so that everyone has to scroll like hell through your laziness to get past the WHOLE original comment posted by the OP that WE JUST READ!

I accept when this is done by a newbie, but I see people doing it that have been here quite a while and should know better. Either that or they're just so damn lazy they could care less about their fellow Warriors' eye strain, mouse button strain, or time.

What's worse is when someone does this and replies with a one sentence response like, "nice post, I agree."

The absolutely most terrible instance of this is in the WSO section where the OP posts his or her entire salesletter (which I don't mind reading) and then the *Idiot* comes along, hits the frickin' quote button and puts the entire salesletter, graphics, screenshots, video and all, into their one sentence reply!!!

Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!!

Please Stop It!!!

You're driving most of us Crrrrraaaaazzzzzyyyyy!!!

</rant>

Best Regards,
~ JoeCool

P.S. Ok, I know one or more of you smartasses will be tempted to do the exact same thing with this post. Please resist the temptation of being an *Idiot*... it won't be funny because I'm already calling you out with this P.S.

You're not the only one. I've written about this before, and others have posted on it as well.

I've seen other forums police this behavior. It would be nice if it were cleaned up here, too.

It doesn't take much to edit down the quoted text, folks.

Another pain is when there's a valuable thread I'd like to print, but it's filled with unnecessary quotes of long posts and replies. Makes for a wasteful print out.

      Hiya Michael,

I didn't even think about that scenario, but oh how true!

Me myself, instead of printing valuable threads I convert them into PDF files and save them, but even then I edit the doc file first to weed out the redundant OP post quotes.

      Not fun.

I find this post interesting, and I think there is an underlying lesson to be learned.

In my few years in IM and many years in sales, I have found one thing to be true.

    People are followers by nature.

Like it or not, this is a perfect example of that fact.

If you tell someone what to do, they will do it.

And in this case if you tell someone not to do, they do it.

Maybe someone should split test this.

If only one person reads this thread, thinks about what was posted here and doesn't quote the whole OP's first post in their reply, I'll be a happy dawg.

Hey, who knows? If more people speak up about this when and where it happens, maybe we can all clean things up a bit.

      One can only hope.

Yes, this and the "I agree" type responses do annoy me a little at times :p

It doesn't happen on every forum I've been too, just here and one or two others. Most forums I participate on do not tolerate it, or the issue is edited by users/mods.

They also say, "Ignorance is bliss."

Problem is, I just can't bring myself to that level of ignorance at the expense of my fellow Warriors.

    Joe,

You misspelled Aaaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhh!!! It needs one more letter a and one more letter g.

Oh Drat. Now I have to keep a copy of this post so the next time I write, "Aaaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!" I'll remember to spell it correctly.

I see that this drives a lot of people crazy. Software could fix it. Forum software could check if a post includes more than 3 lines of duplication of an earlier post, if so, the middle part could be sliced out and ellipses ("....") dropped in. This would guarantee nobody had to see the excessive quote. At the same time, the reply poster could automatically get a pop-up warning or email telling them to cut it out! Meanwhile, for readers, a Firefox plugin could check the page for text duplicated throughout the page, more than a certain number of lines, and remove the duplicates.

Not sure if anyone would be annoyed enough to actually buy the software, though.

    OP,

you act like this is your first forum You should go on less "civilized" forums and start ranting there. Warrior's is actually tame in that regard because the average IQ might be higher than on your typical AOL forum where you can see such things all the time, amongst other annoyances

I have no use for less "civilized" forums. Been there, done that, bought the shirts. Complete waste of time. I don't need to list them out, most of us here know who and where they are.

I accept when it happens here with a newbie, but because the average IQ of the seasoned Warrior might be higher, I would hope that they would have more consideration for the rest of us.

The worst instance is in the WSO section when someone completely quotes the sometimes 10,000+ word count OP... screenshots, proof of income, graphics, video, their Buy Now button and all! Yikes!
