Are Ezine Articles Braking Google's TOS?

Just been surfing around at Ezine articles.com, and started paying attention to the layout. The adsense they display really caught my attention, so I counted how many ad placements they actually have on the pages, and it came to 7.

Now google say "In addition to the three standard ad units, you may also place a maximum of three link units and two search boxes on each web page"

And I'm pretty sure that Ezine Article's have 4 "standard ad units", and 3 "link units" (I have attached a quick layout pic, yellow is the "standard ad unit").

SO, are they breaking google's TOS, or am I missing something???

They are a premium Adsense publisher and are allowed to do things regular publishers can't.
I.e - placements, number of ads, custom ad design etc.

Earn big with Adsense and you'll get those privileges too.

    Sounds Good!

So when could I expect to be able to apply for a "premium publisher account"

Or is it something google decides on an individual basis?

Do they have any public information available on the subject?

You need something like 5 million page views a month.

Nice idea in theory but there are so many adsense ads it's overkill...I just totally blank them out. This is TOO MUCH advertising. I've never clicked an EzineArticles Adsense ad.

Your probably a lot more savy than the average web browser. I'd love to know how much Ezine earn a day though Adsense.

      true...

someone new to the directory may actually have to look for the article....

      just kidding.

the page is rather long - so i guess it can get away with an extra ad or two.

but at the end of the day, most of the clicking occurs above the fold.....

      i think....

so for me, it's one block on top, and a text link underneath

Yeah, same here, I've never contributed to their adsense revenue

But I'm sure many other's have, and do each day!

I wonder what they would do if their adsense account got shut down??? Probably just turn the dircetory into paid membership only, which some people have been suggesting latley, would be interesting to watch

With the pageviews EZA has, I'm sure that they must have tested and tweeked ads for best revenue.

I use Adblock Plus and I never even see the ads on EZA. Normally, I'll turn off Adblock on other people's blogs because I know they get revenue from the Adsense, just as I do on my own blog, but if it is overkill like at EZA, then I'll turn it back on. Less is more.

That said, EZA must be pulling in quite a bit of revenue from Adsense and of course, they've optimized placements for best results. If EZA ever did go completely pay, then I would pull my content and drop them. It would make absolutely no sense for me to pay someone else for the privilege of sharing MY content.
