You can send them emails using Facebook's own servers. Just try to stay relevant and don't over-promote it. You will get suspended quickly.

Set up a site outwith Facebook relating to your group and try and get the members to sign up to your mailing list on that site, for updates etc. Many people join the groups on Facebook but aren't active on the actual group so a realistic number of those who are interested in your topic will be the ones you can convert from your group to your mailing list.

Yes you can mass mail them from Facebook, I think until your group reaches 5,000 then you can't direct message your group (not sure if this is true though) my group is only at 3,300. However, if for some reason you get flagged for spamming your group and you get banned from FB, then you've lost everything. Encouraging your members to subscribe to your mailing list will ensure you'll still have your list.

If you mail your FB group too often then you may get flagged for spamming so better be safe than sorry!

It's a good idea have a second administrator with a separate FB account.

That way if the worst happens and you do get banned you can still get access to your group.
