An answer to a shy Warrior regarding ASSESSMENTS and Planning.

Getting email from Warrior Forum is rare for me, so I thought it would be good to share a recent one from a "shy" Warrior who didn't want to ask on the forum...they wanted to know HOW to go about doing assessments and making plans, since that seemed to be my talking point for years.

Well, shy Warrior and others who have never done a personal inventory of skills, interests or any sort of self assessment, this is for you.

I like Co-Pilot as my first search engine choice on a subject and it returned these sites you may want to look at:

high5test dot com has a free test to help you discover which of four areas you may be good at; doing, feeling, motivating or thinking.

Many of these assessment tests like to put you into one of several categories.

strengthsprofile dot com has one, as does viacharacter.org

I suggest you use a search engine and look for comparison sites of both personality tests and skills inventory.

I have a quick 15 minute exercise which may help. On a blank sheet of paper draw 3 columns, A, B, and C. Take 5 minutes for each, A is what money have you spent on your IM or business activity, rapidly list all the courses, books, and also give an overview of your monthly budget; income and where it goes.

The B column looks at your daily online activity, what is your routine, what does your search history show, where do you spend your time when online.

And the C column, is where you rapidly list your knowledge, experience and skills.

My exercise is done quickly, not a lot of thought, off the top of your head but in 15 minutes you will create a snapshot of where you are at financially, where you spend your time and what skills you think you bring to the table.

Do this BEFORE you do the free high5test and then compare your "snapshot" with what the tests says and see if something jumps out. You can them dive deeper into either more tests if you want, or begin to search for other ideas.

There are two big schools of thought: 1) Do what you love, the money will follow. 2) Find buyers and offer what they already buy. The ideal IM business might be doing what you love to do in a niche full of repeat buyers and an evergreen niche. There are other schools of thought, I'm sure we'll here from some of them.

Assessments don't need to take weeks or months, do it in days, you should know yourself a little bit by now, tests will just often affirm what we know, or we think about ourselves.

Once you have an assessment, then you can make a PLAN OF ACTION. If Shy Warrior or any other Warrior wants my take on planning, I can give some thoughts on that too.

It is a good place to start from, your interests, skills, assets put into an action plan that has a goal (preferably monetary) as a target.

Don't be shy, we may bark but we can't bite you, ask away.
