Kern's Crazy Video-And the most shocking aspect of it...

Did you see it yet?

In my opinion the weirdest thing about is not seeing Kern roll around on the grass with NYPD baseball cap and a bad goatee. All I could think is "man, why does this guy still live in an apartment building?"

So the poll is. Do you think Kern's little marketing trick will work?

I'm voting no. I think it will be popular in the IM niche but beyond that, other stuff out there is funnier. Still I've got to give the guy credit for letting himself look that bad and giving us all a few solid minutes of procrastination.

i think in some way it will work... and it is enough for it to be popular in the IM niche...because thats what he's targeting. Cus on the 29th this month he is re-selling Mass Control.

Also, from what i know...he doesn't actually live there...that's he's "secret hideout" how he calls it. And i think he said in some interviews that he is not living there. Thats kinda like his office or something like that.

Your really answering your own question here.

you started a poll about it - and it deffinetly caught my attention. it is quite different lol. i think alot of people are going to be asking the same question so in essence, it already is going viral.

I know it will work within the IM arena but beyond that how many people will know what Franks is really talking about and his character?

Who knows maybe it could go beyond the IM niche.

I vote maybe which = somewhat...

IMO, the pacing is a little slow at first. So the point doesn't appear immediately. For that reason, I would guess it is not going to go viral. Its an OK video, and IMers will know or at least guess what is going to happen and will watch it for that reason. other people, I would guess no.

How can you be too dry?

I think his workload is becoming too much for him. He needs to get away from the computer more and start having fun in his business again.

I liked the 'silly run'. Cleese would appreciate it. But the game was up when he was running away from 'himself', and it became apparent that the 'silly run' is just a slightly exaggerated version of his real 'silly run'.

I didn't think it was all that impressive. One of my "things" is doing original videos, specifically training videos presented in a light-hearted or comedic way.

I'm sure lots of IM'ers will enjoy it, however.

      Q. Will it go viral?

      A. I suppose it might do if threads like this keep getting added to. (oops!) But I won't be sending out a link to it.

      Q. Will people outside of IM understand it?

      A. Didn't realise they were supposed to.

I don't care if it goes viral or not. That's Frank's business, not mine. It is, however, interesting to watch him launch Mass Control again and I'll follow it to see what lessons I can pick up.

I thought the more interesting question to ask is whether or not this 'cliffhanger' video approach has any mileage? For those that use video, can you see how you could adapt it for your business? (Maybe without having to devise an alter ego!)

      Peter

PS Jason, I checked out that photo of the view from Frank's apartment, I can see why he loves it, especially that horizon (a tad too much absinthe, me thinks!).

I loved it ! Excellent marketing technique. I learned something very valuable today, just reading through this thread.

Put up a poll on the Warrior Forum, or have someone do it for you, so that people, whose names you recognize, will comment on it, put up videos to prove a few points, thus getting your program before hundreds of internet marketers - your target audience.

My niches are not in the "money making" industry. I just come here to learn, but it seems that this technique could work in any niche forum.

Thanks guys - I'ma gonna hafta work on something similar for my niches. LOL

    That is not his home.

He lives a nice luxurious home about 1/2 mile away from his office.

What you are seeing is a home he rents right on the water in La Jolla.

This home he rents, he calls his "Secret Hide Out" is where he works
from. It has a studio in it and a very relaxed environment. It has a
recording and video studio, and Den with a Big TV and lots of
    fun things to do.

Down stairs is his garage that he keeps his surf boards in. He grabs them
and is on the beach in 100 yards.

So what you are seeing is really a beach front rental home that he
    uses as his office.

I have been there and it is a cool place to work if you like to
relax and be near the water.

    I find the video funny.

But what is very interesting, is the "mass control" stuff he is
    doing in this video.

"Some of my clients make more then me."

But I have to PROVE that most don't

"Look, here is 1 regular guy that only made $5000.00"

This is a message delivered in entertainment.

What does a Caveman have to do with Insurance. But I use GEICO, so
I am sure humor in ads gets people talking.

I think asking if this will go viral outside into the general mass public, you're missing the point of things going viral in general.

This is funny to IM'ers because you understand the names, the people, the claims, even the general IM terminology, "so-called gurus" etc..

It will go viral within the IM crowds because of the affiliates/big players sending it out.

I do have to say, the film making is excellent and Kern has a real knack for that.
From an IM standpoint, the video is brilliant, the second half of the video is fantastic.

The production values were very good. You really get sucked in by the story, and then wowed by the near-theatrically perfect presentation of proof that Mass Control has helped people make more money. Have you seen his 'extras' series one & two? He did it after the office.

You might have to be British to get it, I don't know. It's dry, ironic, and totally cringe-worthy. But one of the funniest things I have ever watched. In series two, the David Bowie, Harry Potter and Chris Martin ones are unforgettable.

I actually don't think the video will go viral in the sense that we are used to as well. However, I don't think that was the purpose.

The reason it won't go viral is because...

      1. It's a video that leads to monetization. Viewers inherently reject spreading on videos to their friends when they know the creator is getting some type of monetary value. Sure, a few of us don't mind if Frank makes another Gaballion, but most people won't pass on a video that is associated with selling something (unless they are affiliates).

      2. It has a opt in form. Same thing as above. The scarcity mind set of most marketers would say... "Screw that, I'm not going to share that just so Kern can get some more opt ins".

Anyhow, I don't think the intention was really to "Go Viral".

It's really targeted to just our small incestious marketing circle who "Already Get It".

And targeted to a few whine bags that obviously "Don't Get It".

What I found interesting is Frank is trying to get the opt in without releasing a single shred of content. It's 100% entertainment and curiosity driven, and sort of drives home a point I've been teaching for years...

"Sometimes you don't even need content. Some people just want to be entertained."

Of course at some point you gotta deliver the goods, but it's a interesting opportunity to see how many people will respond to just humor and good times.

      Peace

The video was awesome. I feel that way not from a production standpoint, not even from a entertainment standpoint, but from a marketing standpoint.

In the videos Frank was selling without using the same old sales pitch that everyone is used to. He was building on your perception of him and how he could make you some cash even at the lower end.

People have heard the "Become a Millionaire" sales pitch many times over and it's getting old. Sure, some people still go for it because that still connects with their dream and they are still new to the game. But, in IM especially, we have heard it all too many times and have given in to these sales pitches more times than we would care to admit, only to be disappointing. The old sales pitches don't move us anymore so what would move the IM crowd? Being realistic.

I don't expect every course or ebook that claims to make me a million bucks to actually work on that level. But logically, I can see making 5k, 10k, 25k or more. I can fall for that. That seems attainable.

That's why this video is great from a marketing perspective. It plays to the "Become a Millionaire overnight" crowd and at the same time hits those of us that have heard the big claims before and are less likely to believe that those big claims will work. So, in essence, you reach the entire market, noobs and veterans, all the while entertaining them to keep their interest. It's brilliant!
