Article Marketing - The Very Basics Part 2

Once again, THANKS to everyone for their great/helpful responses - I am new here and very impressed with the "warriors".

I am starting to understand article marketing, but I still have a few questions (sorry if these are very basic)

1. Can you put your website in your articles?

2. If so, where and how? How often?

3. Are these links back to your own site called "backlinks"?

4. How does it work at the bottom of the article - is there where you put a catchy line that is designed to get folks to click back to your website? How long can this be?

5. Is this an acceptable practice in general - meaning do the article sites allow you to do this?

6. Does anyone have an example of a good article with good backlinks etc (it doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd love to see one that a good marketer has written and submitted If possible)

THANKS!!!!!!

    Hi,

You might want to check out Bryan's Newbie University WSO:

He's got some great content in there and it should answer most of your questions.

re: your questions - my answers are all "AFAIK":

    1. Can you put your website in your articles?

    Yes.

    2. If so, where and how? How often?

    Usually only once or twice.

    3. Are these links back to your own site called "backlinks"?

    Yes.

    4. How does it work at the bottom of the article - is there where you put a catchy line that is designed to get folks to click back to your website? How long can this be?

Yes. Length? I think it depends on the article site and how you design your resource box...whether it's separate from your article or you make it blend in.

    5. Is this an acceptable practice in general - meaning do the article sites allow you to do this?

    Yes.

    6. Does anyone have an example of a good article with good backlinks etc (it doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd love to see one that a good marketer has written and submitted If possible)

Not off the top of my head but if I come across one I will post it.

To answer question one, you are far better off to just put your website link in your resource box. They refer to it as "give and take" Your articles are the "give" and your resource box is the "take"

Ok - I'm diving in this evening and submitting my first article - I will use many of the strategies I learned here. I'll make mistakes, but learn too.

Resource Box - everyone keeps saying this. What is this exactly? Is it actually in the article I submit (is it the area at the bottom where I ask folks to go for more info...), or does the article site have a "resourse box" come up, then you input your catchy statement with a website link back to your site" there?

All those items are determined by the directory or site you are submitting to. Some will allow links in the body, some will only allow them in the resource box, and it also changes per directory as to how many are allowed.

A backlink is simply a link that links back to your site.

And in regards to putting your website in the article, it really depends, if you are talking about a link back to your site, this is usually done in your resource box, if you are talking about talking about your site in the article, it depends on the directories and what context you are doing it in.

The resource box or author box is a box you will notice at the bottom of the submit page for article directories which is where you put the link back to your site...so something like

"Want to get your ex back? For more great tips click here!" And ex back (or whatever your keyword is) and click here would be hyperlinks, leading back to your site.

thanks. Everyone I ever met from Canada is very nice.

I'm guessing that if an article directory doesn't like the linkbacks i put into the article (if I choose to do that), it will tell me as I submit it, right? Then I can remove it, or I would imagine some folks whatevermysiteis dot com too? Is that silly? Someone mentioned that they put a linkback higher up in the article and I wanted to know how I would know if that's appropriate or not.

Most directories do not allow links higher in the article, only in the resource box, so your best bet to get approved for your article on the first go round is to just have a link in your resource box and no where else.

    - A backlink is a general term for a link to a site [of yours maybe], it doesn't have to be on an article directory. A backlink could also be on a blog comment, etc.
What's important is maybe that each backlink is usually accompanied with what's called an "anchor" - that "anchor" is usually a keyword pointing to your site. (Used for SEO purposes to rank a site for a keyword)

    Example: Marketing Forum

is a backlink to a marketing forum with a keyword anchor text "Marketing Forum"

    - Resource Boxes: The ending lines of your article where you usually have your backlink. With ezine this can be IN the actual resource box, or simple put at the end of the article. If you do the latter, it will automatically move to the resource box once the article is published. Usually (on ezine) this is a couple of sentences which should have a STRONG call to action, without sounding overly self-promotional.

Ezine only allows TWO such backlinks with a maximum of three words (for each) as anchor - for example Visit my Great Marketing Forum would NOT work since it has 5 words in the anchor.

Goarticles and other article directories are laxer - they actually allow backlinks and anchors IN the article, or even right away as first thing in the article.
