Does anyone know about membership sites?

Hey everyone,

For the past few months, I have been thinking about membership sites. I know absolutely nothing about them. I am really wanting to learn how to build them, what kind of scripts to use, how to install the script, and then how in the world do you populate the site...especially if it is a dating site or something along those lines?

Is there anyone here who can point me in the right direction so that I can start learning all about building a membership site? Has anyone built one or own one? I think it would be a great way for recurring income, and I am very much wanting to learn. If anyone can help me out...books to read, websites to check out or advice, please let me know! Thanks so much!

    Well as for what type of software to use, it really depends on what type of content you will be providing, but also what features you need.

    There are some very simple membership scripts which just make a secure area and take monthly payments, but that's it. But maybe that's all you need.

    Then there are others which allow One-time-Offers, automatic content dripping, member management, affiliates, and a bunch more things.

    There are some good ones to use with WordPress as well.

    Membership sites are a great way to build recurring income, but you just need to make sure to have a steady suply of content and be able to manage the site month after month.

    - Describe a bit more about the kind of content and what other ideas you have, then maybe we can suggest more ideas.

    Thanks Joel! I am actually thinking about starting some kind of online dating site. I also just checked out the All In One: All about membership sites. Good info there too. I didn't know about the All In One threads...I am glad you told me.
