There is no secret in Internet Marketing

It's always interesting to see how many people buy Internet Marketing products looking for the SECRET to make money online.

They want to know the
SECRETS for generating free traffic
SECRETS for generating money online
SECRETS for getting mail leads
SECRETS for clickbank or affiliate marketing

Let me tell you something I came to discover very early in my IM life:
THERE IS NO SECRET

Internet Marketing is pretty simple, it's mainly by:
Product Offer + Traffic + Sales Conversion = Money

You have to offer something of real value to your client. Sometimes people offer products that don't offer nothing new.. but in the sales letter and in the total sales pitch they sell the products as something new.

The value is all great. One of the areas where you can see a lot of the same stuff is Internet Marketing.

But if you can offer something of value to someone that really wants that products you are done.

Forget about the $1 million in one day. The GURUs can make it... because they have email list, friends and an army of affiliates. You don't.

We always have to start small.

There is no such thing as getting 1 million visits for FREE in 1 month from something. I don't care how much they charge for the product teaching that.. nothing can deliver that kind of traffic for free and with quality.

Think long term when you think of Internet Marketing. My friend blog in Brazil about dating took about 1 year and a half to go from 0 visits to 75k visits. And the quality of the traffic is great.

Yeah.. he didn't make $100k in the first month.. not even in the 6th month. But he's definetly making a lot of money right now.

Traffic comes from quality. Mostly quality content.. if you want people to follow you, trust you and think about buying something from you, show them that you know what you are talking about and show them some content of your own.

If you deliver quality... they will come after you asking for a product. You won't even need to make all the sales pitches you would need.. if they didn't know you at all.

And for last..

Wake up... don't try to find the secret or the perfect plan for Internet Marketing. There is none... we all make mistakes, and we will learn from it... Launch a product even if it's not perfet. Imagine if Google had to wait to launch a search engine as good as it is right now. They would still be developing the site.. trying to make it perfect.

Just go down the road and do it.. and you will be HAPPY. Trust me.

By your favorite Brazillian. ME. ;D

This was exactly my mind set when I started back in February. I bought ebooks that held this "special secret" and was quickly disappointed. I learned about the amount of work that you have to put in. By now I have no issues working as hard as i can to get something going. I love IM. It's more of a hobby for me

Yeah there are no secrets..although I have to add that no man is an island..meaning..you can't know it all..and those things that you don't know are sold by others as secrets...

However, there are cases when the secrets sold out there, you already know..

I'm talking a bit Gibberish today..maybe it's the mood or something

    All the best,

Internet Marketing is a business and should be approached like a business.

There's no secrets involved, but I have bought a lot of info products and most of them were good, some were junk.

But without putting the time and effort to learn, it's hard to succeed in this business. But with the right attitude and mindset, anyone can make it online, maybe not get rich, but at least enough to live on.

I agree with Mukal...The "secret," I think, lies in the slow, dawning realization (happens at different speeds for different people) that no matter how many books you read on the topic, at the end of the day, you still have to get up and DO THE WORK.

    Actually - I disagree.

    There ARE secrets.

There are a LOT of things which beginners are doing wrong - and not only do they not know what they should do, they also don't know what they shouldn't do.

It's different for each person and that's why the answer is a secret.

I've paid for time and products many times that have given me a little secret glance of how someone more successful is doing something.

If I never knew it and it can make me more money - it's a secret (to me).

If you are a newbie, and can not figure out one important bit of how to get your first sale, that bit of information could be a secret to you, but common knowledge to many people.

Some salespages label it secrets, other just simply say something along the lines of "this guide explains everything you need to know about _____".

So I would say, yes there are lots of secrets. But the secret is not a secret to you once you know it.

If everybody knew everything, they certainly wouldn't need our ebooks

I would say that there are secrets in Internet marketing,
as in any other real business, but they can't be purchased
from a silly sales page available to general public.

Those so-called secrets are just products, targeting opportunity

Right...I guess my thinking goes like this:

If I don't know how to wash a car, it's not a "secret." I can ask just about anyone or spend a little quality time with google and find out.

Same thing goes for most of internet marketing.

I can find out everything I need to know for free.

The PROBLEM is, of course, that there's so much conflicting information out there, dated info, and outright garbage that a newbie might be staring right at the information and not realize what he's looking at.

That's not because it's "a secret," but rather, just a function of how much noise there is in this industry.

Closest thing I can think of that resembles a genuine secret would be the specific methodology that a particular individual used to become successful, but even there, the basic STEPS are likely to ring familiar...it will be the shading that reveals something (incrementally) new.

There is one heck of a lot you can't find on Google. I'm not talking about 'how to get traffic' etc but very specific things. If those things aren't of interest to you, then they don't matter.

This all comes down to common sense, when people are told stuff they didn't know, they will claim it is obvious and just common sense. Yet really, they had no clue and never implement. Sometimes it is very valuable to have even the most basic thing told to you if it gets you to take action.

Kindof like the value of coaching. Those who succeed, more often than not, seem to get the value in relearning anything that they aren't implementing or succeeding with.

Oh, I'm in no way denying that there aren't specific techniques out there that are capable of helping people turn a profit, but to the OP, I think he's right. The basic premises of making money on the 'net are hardly secrets, no matter how you define the term.

Granted, there are undoubtedly some specific techniques (emphasis on "some" as there's also a lot of garbage that's hyped as "the next great thing") used by specific individuals that can help make the process better, faster, more efficient, more effective, etc.

But to actually start making money online?

      No big secrets there...

I actually disagree with your entire post. I have no desire to break everything down word for word. But the issues of "They want to know" is a HUGE assumption.........it's easy to beat up on newbies and attempt to tell us what "they want to know" but the reality of it is, IM is being largely promoted as a SECRET. Have you not read any sales pages?

I don't know about you BUT I always see a sales page and even WSO's with something related "having the secrets to.......".

The reason why, as you stated, beginners are looking for a secret is because that's how this business is promoted.

Call a spade a spade. If you're a female or MALE and you're jumping in and out of cars charging money for sex, don't try and tell me you're not a hooker. You're doing everything that tells me you're one. Same thing with IM, the gurus and wannabe gurus market IM as a mystical secret and only they have they answer. Much of the marketing is about selling people a secret. If you're doing all of your marketing and continue to use the word secret, after a while, I'll start to think there is a secret. All the actions and marketing tell me so.

If you are new to IM, you don't know about the crafty sales pitches and the funneling process. Can't blame beginners for that. Can you?

If you've read 10 sales pages out of 15 and the ten all mention "the secrets to your success is behind the "Buy Now" button, if you see it enough times you'd be conditioned to look for a secret as well.

And as far as the whole "take action" mantra people love to promote on the WF.......that's bull****. Sometimes it does not make sense to take action. If I lived in Ohio and I wanted to go to New York but I had no idea how to get there so I start driving west all in the name of "taking action". I am going to waste just as much time driving in the wrong direction as I would doing nothing.

Sometimes it best not to take action. Taking action is not end all be all as some of you love to believe. Especially when you have no idea what direction to go in.

Taking action is great but at least have some direction before doing so. IM has 25 or more ways of doing keyword research. One issue I see, there is just no consistency with IM. Ask 10 people how to do keyword research, you'll get 20 answers.

Don't lay the blame on beginners for their thought process. IM is largely marketed as a secret and being easy money. Would you think it was anything else?

Many different people do have genuinely valuable knowledge (secrets if you want to call them that) that they'll share with you free or at a price.

      But your spot on.

For most people...especially on a forum like this one...they don't need more information.

What they need to do is take action on the information they already have.

Fortunes have been made by people with only a tiny fraction of the knowledge the average Warrior Forum member has.

The trap many people fall into is seeking out that magical piece of information that will propel them to wealth.

It really doesn't work that way.

You have to do enough work to build up your skills and assets like email lists, joint venture partners, your own products, sales letters, etc etc.

Over time the work you put in begins to add up and your income increases.

But if you spend all your time looking for more information and not taking action on the information you already have you're never going to build any real assets in your internet marketing business.

      Kindest regards,

I don't think that there are secrets, but there are skills. And part of developing your business acumen as an IMer is to develop those skills. It isn't true, and doesn't serve anyone's interests to pretend, that you can throw up a website and start making money overnight. You have to learn things as you go along and you have to grow.

One of the most common skills among IMers is hype. If they call a skill a "secret," it will sell more. It's not a secret. It's a skill. But you need to learn it. And then implement it.

I've learned a lot by buying products and following programs. Some of them were overpriced. I've learned a tremendous amount free in the last month or so here on WF. And I will only be successful when I systematically put all those skills into action. But no amount of action, without the skills, would get me very far.

A secret is anything YOU don't know.

So yes, there ARE secrets, if you don't know everything. And pretty much all of us don't. But at the same time, pretty much all of us know different things... so at any given point in time, any one of us could teach any other of us at least one "secret."

But there's another implication in the idea of a secret, and that is the idea that if you don't know this secret - the stuff you do know won't work. And that's what isn't true. You can know only the most basic things, and they'll work. They'll work better if you know more, but they'll still work.

I just did my first product launch. I could write a list as long as my arm of all the things I screwed up, and all the things I could have done better, and all the things I should have done but didn't. (In fact, I'm using that list right now to help plan my next product launch.)

Does that mean it didn't work? Of course not. I made a solid profit of several times my actual investment. It might not have been the instant success I hoped, but it's far from being a failure. And if I'd sat around waiting until someone told me the secrets of doing a product launch, I'd have gotten none of that profit.

So it's not so much that there really are no secrets. It's that you really shouldn't sit around waiting to learn them, or spend a lot of money looking for them.

    NO SECRETS !

Myth 1 : The money is in the list .

Secret 1 : This is a truth only if you know some secrets . There is no money in a random list of addresses .

The person behind the address is unique . Find out what makes them tick and all will be well. That is the real secret.

Myth 2: Submitting as many articles as you can to EZA is Article Marketing

Secret 2: Warriors like Allen Graves , James Stein, and Steven have taught me a lot different .

Not one on one . The first two have taught me through post and their sites . Steven's first article was actually an interview with the fire fighter who extinguished the last flicker from the flame that burned Atlanta ( Damn Yankees :-) I know because I have been on his list for a long time . Don't laugh ... he is still getting click through from the first article .

Do you think anyone in this group might know a secret ?

Do you think a certain bum hasn't got a good one or two up his sleeve that is just simply not for sale ?

Myth 3: Those that know , well they really just have more money to throw.

    Secret 3: Last ramble ... I promise.

How do you think they received the money to throw . They learned secrets from people to some extent . The great ones came up with original ideas that was a secret until they told the first person. If they have told it yet.

How much would you pay to sit down and be told answers to questions you don't even know to ask, from the likes of Mike Dillard, I don't do MLM but the credit card is his, Russell Brunson, Allen Says, Paul Myers, or (insert your favorite here).

Now you may think the above crowd is the best thing since sliced cornbread, or at least one of the above runs their business a complete 180 from the way " you" would do it . If you can't see the value of a little question and answer.... your in the wrong business.

If they truly can not teach you a lot of secrets ....please pm me :-)

I see where the op is coming from. I appreciate valid point that motivates.

My opinion is not for sale or I would say my two cents bout now.

I didn't mean there isn't good content about Internet Marketing on the internet. I can actually say a lot of them. But I'm just getting tired of recieving 100 e-mails about "SECRETS". Clickbank Secrets, Email List Secrets or Twitter Secrets...

If you don't know nothing about Internet Marketing, get one course.. and implement it. Don't try to search for the product with a golden nugget.. of information that will make you millionaire in 10 days from today... from ZERO. There is no such thing.

Get some information in marketing and in the sales proccess. Implement it.. test it.. do it all over again.. until you reach somewhere.

      Know what you mean.

Without giving the IMer's names, below are ACTUAL EXAMPLES of "secrets" that are in products I've seen/had brought to my attention:

      * "Get an E-mail List!" (No!? Really!? I mean....this one tops the "secret" charts, don't it?)

      * "Target low-competition keywords and build a market around them!" (wow. I mean...THIS is quality stuff!)

      * "Get your income coming in from multiple streams, rather than one source. This will help you in a number of ways." (Yep...glad I paid good money for this one!)

      * "Use an auto-responder." (another quality "secret" brought to you by the wonderful world of...)

      * "Outsource as much as you can to grow more quickly" (Great idea, but a "secret"?)

      * Use JV's to rapidly increase your sales (another in the "captain obvious" category)

There are lots more. So yes. There is a lot of quality material on the 'net about IM, but there's also an awful lot of noise, and much of the time, what gets hawked as a "secret" is....anything but.

The reason there are secrets is because many people feel that someone is hiding something from them, hence their daily struggle in life. They blame others for their lack of success.

But that's not the secret behind secrets...

So marketers use emotive words like secrets to hook the buyer. Simple.

      So that's the real secret...

Use emotive language and you'll succed.

It's the same reason that you use Discover instead of Learn... everyone hates learning.

Or It's not YOUR fault you're a miserable loser at life... you just haven't been told the secrets... By the way, let me habd you the keys to the vault while I'm at it.

      Ho hum.

I find the main secret here as the other say is 'take action'...

By this I mean is decide what you want to do first... is it affiliate marketing / site flipping / ebay selling / online seo (blogs / shopping sites etc) / product creation -> either software or info products.. / Monthly products etc..

Most people starting out dont actually know what they are trying to achive.. most 'want to make money online'? but how? so they go and try to find the 'special secret' that will get them thousands a day... it's doesnt exist for most people unless your a scammer and rip people off.. and you will not even come close to this if your starting out..

    1) decide what you actually want to be you outcome.. ie.. $3000 a month?
    2) learn the basics first (no quick fix for this)... this may be affilliate marketing or site seo or product creation...
    3) go back and learn some more of 2)
    4) Do split testing that can be measured... this way you can find out what works and what doesnt. if it doesnt work then stop doing it... it it works then keep doing it and improve on it..
    5) record everything...
    6) buy your self a calendar and make date for everything that you want to achive and when itr has to be achieved by....

ie.. 15 dec 2009 -> learn basics of seo. A) On page optimizations b) off page factors
15 Jan 2010.. -> learn Keyword research techniques

etc... You get the idea.. set yourself milestones that you need to meet in both your learning / research and site releases..

for example if your create an info product..

    release date: 01 march 2010
    todo milestones:
01 Jan 2010 -> create aweber list and auto responder emails
03 jan -> create affiliate pages and e-junkie affiliate account
05 Jan -> Buy new domain and install wordpress blog
06 -> post first blog article keyword targeted 'buy hot pants'
07-> create ezine article and submit

you have defined what needs to be done so you have something to achieve by a date..

if you don't do this you will never finish anything and never get anything done.. it will be like when you buy a course and do the first 2 modules of 10 then it's now still on the shelf 2 years later...

I divide IM into four segments.

      1. Sell your own service. You do the work, you sell it, you get paid once.

      2. Sell your own product. You do the work, you sell it, you get paid over and over.

      3. Sell someone else's product/service. You don't do the work, you sell it, you get paid over and over.

      4. Drive traffic to someone else's sales of a product/service. You don't do the work, you don't sell it, you get paid over and over.

As you move from one level to the next, you will generally:

      - do less work
      - get paid less money
      - get paid less frequently
      - have a longer learning curve

The elements of that learning curve frequently qualify as "secrets" simply because the people on a lower-numbered level are less likely to know them, and knowing them brings these people a little closer to moving into the next level of IM.

It's not hard to see that driving traffic is the critical skill. Trouble is, it's also the most difficult for some people. So if I were to identify the big "secret" of IM, it would have to be driving traffic.

Mostly because I suck at it, and would like to believe this is normal.

Cool, people don't think there are secrets?

That makes my secrets safer (queue evil laugh: Bwa ha ha ha!!!)

    I know lots of secrets:

Profitable niches, profitable ads people wouldn't guess perform so well (so they don't try to copy them), profitable ad sources for certain niches...

They're the type of thing you wouldn't know unless you spent a lot of time and money testing a lot of different things. Yep, they're secrets, very specific secrets. (Those are the only kind that are worth much.)

If I could go back 6 months and talk to myself I'd simply tell myself to start somewhere. I wasted at least 2 months trying to create the correct strategy....I wish I had 2 more months of articles, links etc under my belt!
