First Google SideWiki, then Bing Vibrant popups. What next?
Today, I got frustrated and did a search for the term "bing popup ads" (without the quotes) and discovered they are being added by some component or add-on that Microsoft is distributing through an agency called Vibrant.
Seems the only way I can find to get them off the sites I visit is to go to the "Vibrant" website (What is Vibrant In-text Advertising?) and downloading a cookie. If I delete that cookie, the text link ads come back. Talk about intrusive.
So, what does this mean to you?
Seems these folks are forcing these ads onto "content rich" sites. Meaning sites with a lot of keyword rich pages of interest to Bing searches, i.e. Microsoft Advertising.
Is your site keyword rich enough for MSN/Bing to be ripping off your advertising dollars? Do you expect it to be? Mine isn't, yet. But, maybe one day it will be, and I certainly would like to keep the advertising dollars in my pocket instead of Bill Gates.
So, if you have any idea about how I can kill this monster before it appears on my site, please let me know. I've got a SideWiki blocker installed, and that seems to be working well, but I'd like to know if there are any "Bing Blockers" or "Vibrant Blockers" on the market.
This is getting to be a pain in the Gazitchka.
