Autoresponder with import without opt-in

I have a client that has an email list of her clients. She has been dabbling with doing email marketing to them, but it basically was her sending emails from Yahoo or some other email provider.

She wants to start using an autoresponder service, but would like to be able to import this list without the clients having to opt-in.

I have always used AWeber for everything. I know they will let you import a list, but all the clients have to opt-in.

Is there another service that anyone would recommend that she can easily import her list to without the opt-in? And does the service allow you to fill in more information that just an email address, like name, name of company, etc?

Thanks for your help.

And I apologize if this has been discussed already. I searched, but couldn't find anything relating to this. If it has been discussed, someone can just point me to that thread and close this one. Thanks.

I know that Aweber has a function to auto-import preformatted email-lists. It just takes a while until they are available, and you need to write a few lines how and where you got the contacts so they know that the contacts are legitimate. Also you can create single opt-in lists, they dont need to confirm their subscription then.

The single opt-in list won't work in this case. The clients would still have to sign up for the list to begin with. That's what we're trying to avoid.

According to the FAQ on AWeber the only way they let you import a list without them opting in is they can verify beyond a reasonable doubt that these people opted into the list in the first place.

      Thank you Bev.

The little bit of research I have done so far is telling me that iContact is probably my best option for this.

Constant Contact also allows import without opt-in, but I don't know if it's as good as icontact overall?

Also, with icontact can people join your list on a single opt-in basis?

I've just finished switching my autoresponder account from AWeber to iContact.

Having now used both, I can tell you that iContact was a joy to use after navigating my way around AWeber, which can sometimes be a bit of a struggle.

And I was able to import my entire existing list without any problems (with iContact).

On AWeber I imported my list, but it still required double opt-in (I checked and there's no way around that). The result was that with AWeber I only had 26.3% of my pre-existing list subscribed after 10 days!!

And, if you're just starting out and have a small list then iContact is cheaper that AWeber. (If you have a bigger list they cost the same.)

      iContact wins!!

Yup... iContact all the way... It couldn't be easier.

In fact, this was the whole reason we grabbed an account there some time ago.

Don't tell Tom I said that, though I still use and love AWeber as my primary 'sponder.. but the others all have their benefits, so we have accounts with most of the big uns'

    Peace
