I have an app - now what?

AI and I, mostly AI, made an app, two actually. One on my website [link removed by moderator] and one for apple. I'm a Speech Therapist. The app is fairly simple. You type in a word and it shows you the pronunciation of the word using my set of sound cue images (a different little cartoon image for each sound) plus an audio file to listen to each sound and then a way to listen to the whole word.

Parents could use it to help their children learn how to pronounce word correctly. It can also be useful to kids with reading difficulty and may help with English as a second language - maybe.

The app is free. I'm not completely money motivated but it would be nice to see something out of it. Hopefully it would drive a few more people to my website where I do have some products for sale - but my conversion rate is almost 0 so I doubt if I will see any profit there. If the apple version becomes popular enough could I make money with ads?

Obviously I have no idea what I'm doing from a marketing perspective.
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Garth

Waiting seems a bit passive. Launching apps is like fishing?

Good Job! Now focus on positioning and audience. Your biggest advantage is credibility so connect with parenting groups, teachers, ESL communities, and speech therapy forums. At this stage, real feedback and testimonials will be more valuable than traffic.

    This is huge!

I suggest that while you are in app building
mode, you continue to develop a few more
apps to have more to market or giveaway.

Have you considered selling it on TPT or
similar platforms, if you haven't you should
    look into it.

You can ask ChatGPT to give you a list of
ways that you can monetize your app.

Garth, Have you had a chance to talk to some parents directly? Even just a handful of conversations can tell you a lot about whether they'd actually use something like this, and how they'd find out about it in the first place. Same with testing it with a child who might benefit: real feedback from your ideal user is gold.

It's also worth thinking about whether the problem it solves is one parents feel urgently enough to seek out a solution for. You clearly know it's useful from a Speech Therapy perspective, but parents may need a little help connecting those dots.

On the monetization side...ads on a free app can work, but only at meaningful scale. Driving traffic to your website is a solid instinct, though you're right that conversion is its own challenge. It might be worth thinking about whether there's a simpler, lower-friction product or resource on your site that a parent landing from the app would find immediately useful.

You're ahead of a lot of people just by shipping something and asking for feedback. Good luck with it!

    Hi

Thanks for all the great ideas - more to do than sit back and watch.

I do have a Teacher's Pay Teacher's store - I will keep working on this.

Promoting on parent and professional groups is something I have tried with Face Book groups. This would get me some attention when posting. Now that I have a new "product" I will try that again.

My app does solve a problem for me. With certain kids that I work with I want to work on certain words with specific sound combinations. It would take a some time for me to arrange my sound cue images to make up the words - the images helps the kids to say the sounds correctly - my app will make that easy.

There are a fair number of apps out there that parents buy to work on speech sounds - I can try to come up with some that already have images for kids to practice to go with my sound cues

I've been using Codex to do the apple app - it is very slow and asks me to do a lot of the work of setting things up - is there a better choice?

Should I be setting up android apps at the same time?

    Thanks for the help

Seems to be a very good idea, you need to get in touch with "speech" centers directy and propose the app. They already have the customers you need, do it free, no ads. Make it as good as possible and then in 1 year time, add some light ads in it. Let us know the app

oh, friend. It's a shame that you don't monetize your traffic. I don't think selling ads will be as effective. If I were you, I'd implement a native currency and explore different monetization options.
