Dumb question, but to be safe should one stay away from...

With the new FTC rules, is it best now to just stay away from headlines like:

"Get 6 Pack Abs... in 6 Weeks"

for headlines on Landing pages and squeeze pages?

Thanks a ton!

Thanks, Matt... a client wanted basically something that bold on the page and I was trying to explain it to him, but of course he has a gazillion examples that he showed me of other pages....I sometimes forget that I am just the programmer, not a "business" person. Oh well, if he goes elsewhere after all my work, what can you do...NEXT!

If you are only the programmer then you are probably safe. But, it's still a question better answered by others.

So far, I have seen almost no examples of compliance, but that will be changing soon.

By the way, the rules are essentially the same that the offline marketers have had to comply with for many decades.

Thanks....I tried to explain it to him in baby steps. It is actually a "loan modification" business, but that leaves a lot to work with, I was using the 6 pack abs example to him because he is into physical fitness himself, but per the last phone message I got, he still wants to go with it....I can't say I didn't try, I am the programmer, but also the designer and have a conscience...oops, going to have to strike me down for this one....

So what is the example you would give him? Something like:

"Finally Ready to Get the Abs You Really Want?"

Too funny, I may have to post the landing page here now for someone to use, that will teach 'em...didn't get paid for anyway...

Well, one judge STOLE a house and gave it to a defendent for NOTHING! If I had my way, I would garnish ALL their wages for their entire lives. They did something that they should NOT have been able to do, and the plaintiff(Provided a VARIABLE loan with a HIGH cap to people that couldn't afford it), defendent(bought a home WAY beyond their means, and probably lied) and, in a way, the JUDGE(The theft...) were all responsible. They were just a sampling of the people doing the things that got the world in the mess it is in now.

So I guess a loan modification COULD write off all your debts and get you a home free and clear, but I wouldn't count on it, or advertise it.

I have never herd of a loan modification getting anyone free and clear of all of their debts. I am an x-loan modification specialist and I used to work for a bank. All a loan modification does is it takes whatever mortgage payments you are behind and it rolls it into the principal balance of the mortgage and maybe it will extend your term up to 40 years and reduce your rate.

AS the programmer you know what is and is not right. But, when you are dealing with difficult and stubborn clients you sometimes have to give. You did the right thing by explaining it to him in baby words, but if he is adamant about the subject line he wants then there really is not much you can do. However, if you warned him about this via email do save those emails. This is in case he runs into any problems or accusations of false advertisement and he tries to pin the problem on you (because you were the programmer) you have ways of protecting yourself. I have seen a lot of things in this business. For many years doing business online was not regulated so harshly by the federal government, but now things have changed dramatically.
