Is there a way to do article marketing these days that actually works?

I used to do article marketing. I mean during the wild wild west of article marketing and I became very good at it. Now I've been away for a while and I'm not sure if there's a way to do it effectively. Everyone wants to create video content, but that's just not something I'm into just yet. I still want to be able to write content and put it on websites that allow you to leave an outbound link back to a privately owned website. Is there any way to do this in 2026? What are the websites or other sources I can do it because I'm completely clueless.

Let me suggest a free RSS import plugin from WordPress.org: https://wordpress.org/plugins/rss-retriever-lite/.

It allows you to automatically insert relevant YouTube videos into posts imported from 3rd-party sources. For example, this feature is very useful for importing product lists into WooCommerce. The plugin automatically analyzes the post title (product name), finds the most relevant video about it, and embeds it directly into the WordPress post being created.

Yes, I think press releases are the best way to do article marketing these days. They not only build your presence across sites but also help AI engines find you and rank you for a specific niche. However, there are hundreds of sites yet where you can write, rank yourself, and get good-quality backlinks as well.

Yes, you can still write articles, the problem with
that is millions of other people are writing articles
as well, the same thing is happening with press
releases, hundreds of people are publishing and
distributing thousands of press releases every
    single day.

10K books are published every day on Amazon.

Over 20M videos are uploaded to YouTube daily,
that does not include video platforms like TikTok,
    Facebook, and all the rest.

AI can develop a website in 30 seconds, and all
the other things that AI can be used for.

Keep sitting there reminiscing about yesteryear
and having the attitude about all the things that
you aren't ready for, that you don't want to do
and that you don't want to learn.

If you want to be competitive and plan to make
any kind of online income, I highly recommend
that you shake the dust off and learn whatever
you think you need to know, otherwise you will
be just another person who isn't making money
    online.

I told you all years ago that if you don't get with
the program, you are going to get left behind.

This goes for everybody, whether you read this
or not, whether you believe it or not.

I have been online for 25+ years and the past
    is just that.

    The PAST.

Substack notes and newsletters let you link out freely. If you build even a small list, that outbound link is worth more than most directory submissions ever were.

Yes, content marketing is still a reliable way to acquire users in 2026, but it is no longer the easy win it once was. Earlier, publishing blogs and ranking on Google was enough, but today the game is about quality, intent, and distribution.

Absolutely, content marketing works in every era. But still now its more competitive than before. High quality and clear user intent article are more valuable nowadays. Rather than just publishing and waiting for rankings.

Go to FACEBOOK. Search for Two Brothers SNL. You will see a site that looks like it is about the Blues Bros from back in the day...with stories posted from sites like truetaleus.com and besttstoryusa.com (study those sites) and AI similar sites.

These articles on Facebook act as clickbait for businesses, like a roofing company.

Your market, if you choose to accept this mission, is to create these articles, stories for local businesses and post on their Facbook pages. You are welcome.

I think you are concentrating on the wrong thing.

If you start your own blog, just name the blog something that is both a major keyword (or keywords) in your niche, and describes your subject...easy to understand what the blog is about. And write articles there that have headlines that are exact search phrases that your target audience would use as Google search terms.

Then ping the website a few times.

Your customers that do Google searches will far outnumber the ones that go to a website and find your article with a link.

Find out the top 20 search terms that you customers use to find information in your niche, and write articles with those terms in the headline of the articles....

    OK, now you know.

And write articles there that have headlines that are exact search phrases that your target audience would use as Google search terms. ( the reason for doing this is Worpress publishes sequentially newest to oldest. if you start wring on a topic and someone looks at your most recent post they will appear in backwards order - so batch publish the content in reverse order and your "most recent Posts" appear in order )

Then ping the website a few times.

Your customers that do Google searches will far outnumber the ones that go to a website and find your article with a link.

Claude is right.... the days of guest writing are long gone. focus on your own content for your own site.

Something to consider.... Look at me thread here: ( https://www.warriorforum.com/warrior...days-ebay.html ) pay attention to the first post. you will see links to all of the specific "on topic" posts.

You want to create content in this type of format. dont do the long winded cover all type posts. break the post down to very specific topics. You want to batch "publish" a number of post at once. ( if you are using word press - you want to publish the posts from last to first ) The example here would be again my first post - the links. there are 19 on topic related posts, you would publish the last one " looking forward to 2022 " and then Post " covid ebay sourcing ", and so on and so on till you reach the first of the series " Shipping ".

You then want to go back in once they are posted and include links at the top and bottom of each post to the next post and previous post. THEN you can submit to Google.

I would say the KEY to writing content in todays world ( and really yesterdays world is no different ) is to write VERY specific content that answers a very specific problem. Look at the titles of each of the links ( again in my ebay thread ) each link is very specific and very targetted to a single problem and solution.

      Hope that Helps!

Yes. The titles of each article should address a singe question that your buyers ask, and the answer should be in the article. They can be really short too.

Why? Because when the buyers do a search, that are typing in a very specific question they want answered. You want to be the first thing they see on a Google search.

    My HONEST opinion:

NO. Don't do article marketing in 2026.

10 years ago when there was not a whole lot of competition, you could get away with it and get some free traffic.

    Here are as few things to consider;

If you write an article on another person's website....

Nobody went to that website to read your article.
Nobody went there to find your link.

At best, they are only tangentially interested in your subject/offer.

And at best...your traffic will only be a small percentage of the people that went to the host's website.

But...If you write headlines that attract your ideal customers, and use articles on your own site...

All that traffic is there to read your article.

And Google traffic (doing a search for your topic) is maybe a billion times more plentiful than the traffic to the host's site...then to your link.

And you don't have to ask permission to post your article on your own blog.
And you don't have to worry about the link not being included...or the host's website being terminated....or your article getting lost behind a hundred other newer articles.

And you can promote your blog for free on Facebook, Youtube....and a dozen other platforms this old man can't remember right now....including your signature on your posts on this forum ....or just about any forum you post on.

Whew! That should keep you busy.

Yup. I used to spin articles and have them posted on a few hundred article sites. And they actually ranked on the first page of the Google search results. Then, years ago, they stopped showing up at all in searches.

I've been building websites, writing content, and researching SEO for right in at 29 - 30 years.

The strategies I used way back when and the ones I use today I pretty much the same. Granted some of the nonsense keyword stuffing from back in the day is gone, but the basic principles of the content itself remain the same... understand the problem and publish a solution. Understand the question an end user might have and provide an answer.

Going way back to 1996 Bill Gates said; " Content is King " and look at where we are today... Content is EVERYWHERE. Regardless of format ( video, written, graphic, audio, etc ) there is an ABSOLUTE rule that makes some content better than the rest. 3 simple steps.
      1. Identify the problem ( using the title etc
      2. Give a glimpse at the solution
      3. Provide the steps to get to the solution.

Watch TikTok, watch YouTube, read an article, listen to a podcast... ALL of the " GOOD " content follow these 3 steps Get them in, show them what they are getting, and show them how to get there.

In terms of SEO, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Modern SEO stems back to the " Florida " Google update back in 2003. The only thing that has changed in all of these years is the latitude and importance of all of the algorithm rules made back then. The general rules have remained the same.

like anything in life, if you want to participate, you kinda have to know the rules. What rules have to be followed, and which ones and under what circumstances you can break.

The Blackhat world of SEO is a never ending story of those that over time get caught. Then the flip side of that is the white hat hero's that have dragged out, one might say a successful career quietly and under the radar. The above mentioned idea of stacking content is in many ways the idea of Silo SEO structure.... Silo has long been frowned apon as breaking the rules... but chronologically and by topic stacking content is giving you the same SEO advantages without the blatant risk.

The only thing that has changed for those that understand the history of SEO, is not the rules themselves, but how the rules have been refined over the years. Its not ok to use Silo structure, but it is ok to stack content. In the end you still have the same SEO advantages, but the risk is gone. Your not publishing to rank for the sake of rank, you are now publishing content that has context, and content worth reading, watching, listening to with the structure that allows for better rank.

Yup. I've noticed that the crap I put out years ago to get links has disappeared. But the well written, informative articles I wrote years ago...the ones actually offering real advice keep getting copied and pasted on other sites....or at least quoted.

Because most people prefer to watch videos.

      That's just facts.

Articles can still work but as someone wrote
above, putting videos inside the article makes
it more interesting to the reader/viewer and it
      gives them more options.

Platforms like Medium make it easy to insert
a video into your articles and images as well.

But to each their own, if you think people are
going to read your plain text articles, then just
      do that.

article marketing still works but you cant do the old spin and blast to directories thing anymore. I write long form guides with real data on my own site then repurpose shorter versions on Medium and LinkedIn.

guest posting on sites with actual readers also still gets results. one good placement on a site people actually read beats 50 directory links easy.

It still works, just not in the old mass-submission way.

Now it's more about publishing on niche-relevant sites and building authority over time.
Platforms like Medium, niche blogs, and even your own site + internal linking can still give solid results.

I'd focus more on fewer but higher-quality articles rather than quantity.

Set up a personal blog if you haven't already and post content on it so that you can get traffic from the search engines organically.

Sharing your content is key but you should do it strategically and be creative whilst doing it so that you aren't spamming.

You can even convert 1 piece of content into different forms of content to amplify your reach .
