World of Warcraft Niche, Ebook, now what?

12 replies
So I've created my first Ebook. It's a 26 page guide in the niche of World of Warcraft. I had my father (who plays the game and is actually a highly experienced technical writer write it for me) The guide is basically a run down of how to mass a wealth in the game without the tedious farming techniques that other guides are famous for.

Now, my question is how should I go about marketing this book? Being this is my first en devour, I'm wondering if I would be better off making my own website for the book and selling it there or if there would be a market for selling this with PLR to others in this niche, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey,

    Well you do have a few choices,

    Sell it, Use It To Gain Optins, Or Sell PLR!

    In order, explained, what I would do:

    1. Use it As Optin Material

    Put up a squeeze page offering the guide for free in return for a name and email. Drive traffic to this page using articles, yahoo answers, social bookmarks, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and SEO. Whatever you have a little experience in. If you have little experience, then start with say articles and search for article related threads here to guide you!

    This method will build you a list which you can market to further down the line. You could work on a bigger, more in depth product with video for example and you could build up to the sale via email!

    2. Sell It

    You could sell the ebook straight out if it is worth money. Again, similar to the optin process but setup a salespage instead of a squeeze page. Drive traffic to it and make sales!

    3. PLR

    You can sell it as PLR but if you have a unique ebook, it is worth much more to you kept that way and used to build a business!

    Hope that helps!

    I was giving away 16 ebooks for a while on WoW - as a former player I think WoW is tons of fun but a big waste of your time. I had some success on EBAY and believe it or not Craigslist lol still I think you need to start a forum or some way to couple interest with a squeeze page that triggers alpha players who want to rule the game -

    these seem to have the most emotional connection - here is the site I used - notice it was very simple and almost child like and promises to end embarrassment of crappy gear -the target audience is 12-18 year olds and pissed off adults who don't do well in WoW - I bundled all of these guides together because there are literally THOUSANDS of people selling WoW guides; you will not be able to sell your guide unless you highly target a very dissatisfied niche within the gamer community;

    I converted tons of peeps using this format - and notice I have music added to this;the music is critical because anyone who is struggling to make 80 is playing in this zone and wants to advance
    quickly - so going through another run with an alt seems like its time to invest in a short cut.

    16+ Bonus World Of Warcraft Guides - just 9.99!!

    by the way I had good success using the angle that these were secrets (which they were)

      Thanks for the info Necro,

      One of my ideas was very similar, I would set up a squeeze page for the guide and I've actually found a couple choice keywords that I would find it fairly easy to rank for. I'm also a regularly contributing member to the Vaultnetwork forums on the game, where I could then change my signature to my website url to drive even more traffic.

      I was actually a little taken back by your site, I'm glad its working for you and I might take that approach as well. Before then I was just going to model it like any other sales page (Zygorguides.com) for example.

      As far as using it for Opt-in material that would be an excellent idea if I was planning on staying in the niche of online gaming, however, I really just put it together as a test project only because my father is an avid player of the game and could write the guide for me in very little time.

      Thanks for the great replies guys! Really appreciate it!

        The fact that you were taken aback is good, heh that was my intent. If you are a good player this really wouldn't have gotten under your skin;

        I no longer promote this site as I am doing other things yet I did make a lot of money from this format -My first attempt was a clean organized and highly detailed "nice site" - it failed miserably;
        I got lots of opt ins and no one bought a thing; It was my realization I needed to put this product in front of people who were proven buyers - like "ebay"

        When I focused on emotion - and targeted the young niche (tons of searches by 14-18 year olds looking for comprehensive guides on ebay) I did make lots of money from it and it worked in a HIGHLY competitive environment.

        I discovered selling a single guide book is almost impossible when existing competition has videos, blogs, 10-20 guides - just my observation from over a year of marketing in this niche; you are free to find out the hard way like I did and spend months making a complicated site that everybody loves and no one ever buys from.

        I follow Cory Rudl's philosophy that a site does not have to be pretty to sell - it targets a niche exactly as any marketing should - it causes greed and triggers a response to buy immediately; and if you don't engage the emotions of would be buyers they go somewhere else; its just a fact of marketing in my humble opinion.

        Marketing isn't always pretty. At the end of the day selling is what matters - you can build a better site but people will expect more, which is fine.

        Best of luck

          I agree that selling just 1 guide in this market would be a bit of a pain however, after looking at the prices for the best guides, and looking at what they're actually offering (many of the guides and videos are explaining things that don't really need to be explained). I feel that one guide, targeted to a sub niche within the niche, could actually work. At this point like I said its a test, it'll be my first jump into marketing online so I wanna get some of the kinks worked out before I launch a product in the niche I'd like to stay in.

    Hi Restiles,

    Just some advice, to get more opitin trigger pain. e.g:

    Pain:
    The user is not being able to do all the fun stuff because he has to acquire gold.
    He's falling behind to his friends and competitors because he has to acquire gold.
    He fears he can't "win" in combat or questing due to lack of gear and weapons as he has to acquire gold.
    Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    I have considered getting into this niche also. I have a couple of friends who are avid players and guild leaders. They have shared many of their techniques with me.

    So I think I might go with this niche also. My first step was to do market research in this niche and I agree it would be difficult to sell just the one products on a site. I think you would need soe sort of bonuses for this to work. If you look at other sites offering WoW products you will see this to be the case also.
