Honestly, my feeling is that the more crappy spammers who're weeded out the better. As long as I can still conduct my business with honesty and integrity (and still make a buck, too), then I'm all for the changes.

Everyone that sells an info product online should watch this.

The Real Life Example part is very good information as Jim asks questions about his website and the FTC comments on them, very valuable.

Great interview.
My take on this whole ordeal is plain and simple. Do not cross the line of being dishonest or aligning yourself with any one that is.

Just went through most if it. As dry and boring as it was, it's very informative.

Reading btw the lines in all this, it appears they want to go after those who are down right fraudulent in their marketing or those that are "living over the line" as he says.

As long as we remain honest, I don't think we have anything to worry about. The sky isn't falling.

For some quick nuts and bolts info (and a reality check for a lot of people), check out "Live Examples" and "Examples, Cont." portions of Jim pulling up his own websites and testimonials for critique.

So does that mean we need to scrutinize the sales page of the products or offers we promote? If they have testimonials that we feel are uneasy with or similar, we should stay away from it right? There are probably a SLEW of companies changing up their pages for sure!

Thanks for this helpful post. I think there's so much misinformation going around about the FTC bringing the hammer down on all marketers, and some of that pure speculation is just downright ridiculous! It's refreshing to hear it straight from the horse's mouth, and my interpretation of the interview is that they're leaving a lot of grey area open, it's definitely not as black and white as the rumors have painted it to be. The legal jargon is pretty vague, and it seems like a lot of this came as a "knee-jerk" reaction to the public outcry over popular bloggers getting compensated for their endorsements of products.

I'd say as long as you err on the side of caution, be honest, and don't make any wild and/or unverifiable claims, you should be safe. We'll see how this plays out over the coming weeks, but I think that as long as we remain honest and don't out-and-out lie about figures and/or financially incentivize people to post testimonials, we should be just fine.

I read the transcript rather than watch the video, which I think made it a little harder to understand because I couldn't hear voice inflection, etc. Sometimes Jim would ask a question and I'd think, "Yes, that's the exact question I have," but then Rich's answer was a little muddy. But I can see how it's impossible to draw clear lines when there are so many variables involved. It was definitely helpful, though, and I feel like I have a much better grasp on what they're trying to do.
