Visual marketing ideas and concepts - How do I present myself to the marketing world?

Hi Everyone nice to meet you all and be involved in this community. I am Sam, I have been working for myself in retail and event design for 20 years, designing graphics and visual concepts. I have always as long as I remember been interested in making images and visual ideas for marketing and spend endless time looking at campaigns and Ads thinking things are not as good as they could be and opportunities and messaging are missing. I have made graphics for many large brands in the retail and events space and whenever I have got involved in any concept design it goes really well but most of the work the concept has already been established and I am following on with that style. I had for example a job visualizing an event for the launch of a new Sony phone and the events agency asked if I could make up some extra background graphics to show off 5 key features of the phone, Sony loved the graphic ideas I made and asked if they could use them in their main campaign imagery, I have had this happen also with other brands so I know the energy I have about marketing graphics is where I should be. My question is how do I approach the world of marketing to get myself seen so I can do more of this, how would I describe myself and who would I talk to. When I read up about marketing on google I grey over with all the detailing finding it hard to see how I can get involved without having some kind of comprehensive marketing spiel but I am overflowing with visual creative ideas and want to get involved in the marketing field. The ideas I get are my own concepts most of the time.. I have a big idea in my head for a campaign for weetabix cereal for example and would love to draw it up and send it over to them, but how would I pitch it to them in a way that is professional and in a way they would see it as a serious creative idea for example? .... Thanks if anyone can help !

If you have been in this industry for 20 years you should
have some idea of how contacts are made - send them
a media kit or whatever the standard format is.

Point them to your website and social media pages.

You can brush up on current methods by taking courses
or reading books on marketing and branding.

You could even strategize with ChatGPT, it can provide
pointers on how you should proceed.

I would not send anyone my whole idea until we have a
contract, maybe just a sample from another campaign.

    Who's your ideal customer?
Why would/do they work with you?
Where can you get in front of them, one to many eg. trade magazine they subscribe to and actually read, website they frequent, podcast they listen to, industry conference they attend?

Baked into these questions are answers to price point and scope of work.

You can't and shouldn't be everything to everyone, just a warning I give to everybody.

Identify those 3 things and you'll be well on your way to having a marketing system.

Approaching prospects one at a time is awful. Get in front of them through a distribution channel as I gave examples of and you'll have an easier time. And you can do this for free by finding who is in charge of the channel and doing helpful things for them...which could be providing articles on how to do visual marketing well for their niche (with proof), as a for instance. Fresh, relevant content is always in demand.

Lovely Thanks inam56, I will take this advice very much on board and proceed, so I would not be contacting brands direct if I put togther some concepts as examples or I do send to brands and agencies.

If I can ask " what would you do" scenario about my weetabix idea.....

I have a party trick using a weetabix which I think could grow to be a large social media stunt, think of the ice bucket challenge for example and how that grew. I can also see the simple catchy branding and imagery very clearly in my head that would launch the challenge. The question is how do I go about pitching this to the cereal company as an idea in such a way I would collect some money for the idea and the visual identity design should it go ahead and succeed. Many Thanks again for your comprehensive response
