Recording Telephone Interview?

How do you record an interview you are doing with somebody over the phone?

Do you just turn the phone on speaker and have a audio recorder right next to you? Obviously, the quality then of this recording is less than impeccable; I want high-digital sound quality.

Is there some sort of equipment and software, where you can do this?

Would you be interested in something like Free Conference Calling?

This will give you a free mp3 to download and edit if you wish. Very handy stuff.

The conference call route is one way to go.

Another option is using something like Radio Shack's little Recording Controller with a headset. Plug your headset into the controller, plug the controller into your hanset and either your sound card or a digital voice recorder, and away you go.

If you really want high-end sound, Mike Stewart has a package that might suit you. Check out InternetAudioGuy.com.

This is what a lot of law enforcement uses. Amazon.com: Olympus TP-7 Telephone Recording...Amazon.com: Olympus TP-7 Telephone Recording... <--- not an affiliate link

I have one and it's fantastic. That is what I use when I am not in my office.

When I am in the office, I use Skype with the Pamela plug in.

There's also this service called Record My Calls... https://www.recordmycalls.com/

I used to subscribe to them and it was excellent. Can't say good enough things about them.

The best quality of the three is the Olympus running into a decent digital recorder.

Skype with Pamela is really solid quality as well.

    Hi,

Just to expand on the above post recommending Google Voice. It's very nice. It has to be an incoming call so the person has to call you via your GV and then you simply press the 4 key on your phone and start talking. The entire call is recorded.

I would like to recommend Skype. A year ago I was not impressed with Skype's clarity. Know Skype is very clear. I would use Skype for one on one telephone conversations that you want to be recorded.

Skype is great (as mentioned above), I'm even hearing it used more in regular broadcast radio. The call in quality for guests generally sounds a lot better than telephones - probably because the microphones are of a higher quality.

Just google "record skype call" to get a lot of options, both free and paid.

Use skype, download the free program called "Audacity", enable 'stereo mix' on your sound card and call away! Works like a charm for me!

Another alternative in Skype is to invest in "Pamela" - it is awesome recording software with many great features. I use it all the time. You can check it out in skype under the tab ...

Skype and Audacity is probably the best way to go. For times when I need record a call over my landline, I use a modem and software called Trx Phone Recording Software - Windows Call Recording, Mac Phone Recording (not an affiliate link).
