Setting up Facebook using Business Name or Personal Name?

Hi Warriors,
I want to set up a facebook account (can you believe it?), but the big question that I have is whether I should set up a facebook using my personal name or my business name. I hear that you cannot have both at the same time or else facebook shuts down your account....

So my main purpose is to promote my business using it but setting up a business profile has some limitations I think?

Can you let me know which one you would do and why? It would be great if the people who are successful using facebook with their business is using?

Thanks
Chloe

I'm curious as to why you say you can't do both.

I have 2 facebook accounts and didn't try hiding my ip address or using a proxy to set them up,which leads me to believe that you can have both a personal and a business account.

I'm definately not a facebook expert by any stretch of the imagination, but just wanted to share that since i have 2 accounts i believe you should be able to do so.

    my 2 cents

You might want to take a look here:

If I already have a user profile, can I create a business account?

Maintaining multiple accounts, regardless of the purpose, is a violation of Facebook's Terms of Use. If you already have a personal account, then we cannot allow you to create business accounts for any reason. You can manage all the Pages and Socials Ads that you create on your personal account.

Please keep in mind that the fans of any of the Pages you administer will not have visibility or access to your personal account or profile. Any actions that you take as a Page administrator on your Page will show the Page's name as the actor and not your personal name.

If you wish to manage ads for multiple clients, you will need to do so from one account. We suggest you restrict all ads for each client to separate campaigns. Unfortunately it is not currently possible to designate separate credit cards for each campaign or to have multiple administrators for the same ad account.

      HTH,

    hey,
while I'm not positive on whether you are aloud to have a business and personal profile, if you have to choose between one or the other i would strongly recommend going with a personal. My reason is bc/ people are more likely to buy in to what it is that you are selling because they are able to recognize that you are just a regular person like them. A business profile can turn off many people and typically makes some1 less comfortable and feel that your product is less credible.
    Hope This Helps

Facebook does better having a person behind the image, so if you can build relationships to sell. You should be create a personal account and a fan page for the business.

I also create groups using keyword research around my niche.

    Hi guys

i can only comment with what i have done with my own facebook account and how it has worked for me.

My account is in my name and the link for my profile is my business name so that people can search for me both by my business name and personal name.

I've alo done the same with my twitter account and this has worked well too.

so i suggest that you also try to combine the two as its all about building your brand through these social networking sites.

    kind regards

    Thanks guys,
Its true what Tink says, that you cannot have both and if you do and they find out they will most likely shut you down. Anyways, using a personal one people can identify you as a person (nice point that you guys make) but the problem is that Facebook does not allow you more than 5000 members...So thats the cap....

So with the business account can you use unlimited members?

    thanks

Your profile is limited to (I think) 5000 friends.

As far as I have heard, a fan page can have unlimited fans.

So, it would seem that the way to go would be to have your own personal profile, and then use it to set up a fan page for your business.

You should always be real on Facebook. People will always to do business with people they know, like and trust.

First start with a personal page on Facebook. 5000 limit
Then make a fan page. unlimited limit I have a my name one and a business one. You can make as many fan pages as you want.
Until you get to 25 fans, I make a bitly link to send people to my fan page.
Once you have 25 you can a Facebook.com/namefanpage

Make sure you give valuable content and people in your keyword niche will friend and fan you.

I hope that this clears up some the question you had.

    It depends in my opinion.

It depends on if you are planning on using Facebook as a personal space.

If you're using it as a personal space and have your friends connected to that Facebook account, I would definitely suggest that you get a business account as well.

I say this because of experience.

Right now, I only have one Facebook account. It is my personal Facebook account.

But, I have been using it for business since I opened it. Actually, I opened the actual Facebook page so I could use it for business.

But, as Facebook has become more and more popular, more of my friends have jumped on Facebook. So, now my Facebook pages more for personal use.

So, whenever I market on Facebook I get a little bit of backlash from my friends. And rightfully so. My friends just want to be my friends. They do not want to be marketed to.

But, if I set it up as a business account, then my friends that become friends on that business account expect a few marketing messages.

So, I definitely think you should separate the two. I am actually working on that right now.

But, I was on Facebook at such an early stage that none of my personal friends even knew about Facebook.

So, as Facebook becomes more and more popular, I think it is imperative that you separate the two.

    Hi
I can understand that more basic set up questions is not for this forum, but does anyone know where I can get help for such ones? By the way these two "basic set up questions" are as follows:
    Hi
Could anyone help me with two problems I`ve got with Facebook application?
Despite having put "everyone" and "allow" for Public search (on search engines) results my Facebook name+"Facebook" doesn´t show up on google at all. As I understand it then really should(?)
Second ,on Privacy settings, it is impossible to change for "Privacy-photos". Although I many times have chosen under "Who can see this" and clicked "save settings" it remains on "edit settings" and then of course my choice is not activated.
Two for me strange problems I cannot fix.
I first thought it could be restrictions on my MAC behind it but it is the same with my Vista Labtop.
