Domain Name for Sale - how?

One of my clients wants the .com version of a domain we hold the .co.uk name for. It was originally registered by her previous designer and although he and I tried to get the name transferred somehow it wouldn't actually transfer.

I spoke to the registrars after it had expired and they told me it had been reclaimed by whichever body takes names back before releasing them (Sorry if that doesn't make sense, because I can't remember the actual name.)

We were told the domain would probably be released for sale by the end of November. I have now found out that the domain name was actually re-registered at the beginning of Nov (ie before we were told it would become available) and is for sale by a Korean company on Sedo.

I feel something fishy is going on here. Is my only option to put in a bid?

Thanks
Carol

    Hi Carol,
I'm not sure anything fishy went on as there's a grey area after the domain isn't renewed with a grace period and then it's released. Domainers all over the world watch good domains particularly .com on a daily (and sometimes hourly basis) to pick them up. If someone has it registered then it's legally theres and the only way to get it anytime soon is to bid for it. Obviously there's a chance it'll get dropped next year if not sold and they have only registered it for a year. But no guarantees you'll get it then either.

Yes, at this point, the only option is to bid on it at Sedo.

I have used Godaddy's Backorder feature with some success.
They monitor the domain and when it is released they grab it for you.
Actually they secured a domain for me that I tried for 2 years to get.

You might be able to contact the company and make an offer on the domain. This might work better if it has been up awhile without any bids.
