Hey everyone

I tried searching for this in the forums for awhile and could not find anything....forgive me if this is a DUH:rolleyes: answer

I am trying to customize the image in my header on wordpress, but cannot seem to find where to upload an image:confused:

I was wondering if there are only certain themes that allow you to do this?

Also, where in the dashboard menu do you go to insert a customed header?

I plan on just simply uploading a picture off my desktop i found on google.

Thanks!

    1. You cannot upload a header image from the dashboard. You need to use FTP and upload it into the wp-content/themes/YOUR-THEME/images/ folder
(most themes have their own images folder) with the same name as the original header image file!

    2. Make sure the "found" image's copyright permits using it on your site. Otherwise you might get into troubles...

For those of you encounter this problem at some point, just take a look at the theme editor build into wordpress and see the file header.php and check to see what image it is calling up. Then, just swap to a different image. Easy.

When you want to create your own WP header...is it possible
to change the size of the header and make it bigger without
      breaking the template?

      Thanks.

Most of the time you can not.
Usually, the div in which the header image is placed has its dimensions (width & height) defined in the stylesheet to fit the image into it.

Furthermore, most themes use a "wrapper" or "container" div that keeps the whole layout together and the width of that div determines the width of the header, content, sidebar etc.

Hey on a related WP topic...

I'm always spying on other people's websites to see what KWs, title tags, etc...they are using.

I've noticed that on some WP blogs, you can't see this info in the page source. Have you noticed that?

          Thanks.

Yep. Out of the box a WP theme usually doesn't have the keywords and description meta tags in the head.

There are dozens of plugins that will help you to have more meta tags. I guess some people just don't care: that's when you don't see anything on their blog

A few WP themes do have Dashboard capability to replace the header image, but with most themes, it's pretty easy anyway. If the theme's image directory contains a "header.jpg" you can just replace that with your own image of the same size. I've actually had some luck changing the height of header images, too, but the theme's design determines how well this will work. To do this, you usually have to find the header section in the stylesheet and change the height number.

One really interesting marketer's theme I found that does allow you to set the header image from the panel is called Ikarus.
