Subdomain Question

Hi Everyone,

I am a noob and I have a question.

If I purchase a general domain name, for instance www.alittlebitabouteverything.com, can I use anything I want as a subdomain and achieve 1st page rankings on Google for each subdomain name, assuming I'm capable of promoting my subdomain well enough? Such as computers.alittlebitabouteverything.com, dogs.alittlebitabouteverything.com, astronomy.alittlebitabouteverything.com, etc. Or, does Google quit recognizing the different subdomains because they are totally unrelated to one another?

I'm asking because of the cost savings of having one domain vs. registering multiple domain names.

Thanks for your help,
Mark

  • hmmmmmmmm i need to know the answer to that as well

let me just ask though, for example if i register a domain as Buy New & Used Cars, Research Prices, Sell My Car, Find Auto Dealers can i then have something like Welcome to: Weightloss.com under the main domain? or do i have to pay for another domain? what i dont understand is that they say u can have more domains under your main one, does it have to be something related to the name of the first domain? such as carsforwork.com if someone could answer that id appreciate it!

    cheers
  • A sub-domain is for most purposes the same as a completely different domain.

The names don't have to be related at all, but why would you want a domain with unrelated terms - it looks unprofessional.

But you can have as many as your host will allow.

They're technically not much more than just another folder on your web server, they have a new URL containing the name for the subdomain aswell as the main domain.

    • ok good point

reason i ask if u can have subdomain not related was to host other sites if u are an affiliate marketer for example with another niches, is that possible?
