Hi all,

I am trying to get my offline business going, we just launched our website, and now we are trying to find new clients. I will not post the address, because I don't want this to be taken as a spam post, but I am seeking advice for getting new offline clients, if anyone can offer help, I would be grateful!

Thank you!
Matt

You can start with a big press release distribution. Make sure that inside your press release you have samples of your work along with solid testimonials. A quality press release will cost you $360 for media visibility at PrWeb and it will get you a lot of exposure.

I'm thinking you're going local so the best thing is to do the phone book. Make a few phone calls to your local community and meet with them. Also you might want to read up on some offline business threads they do have some great tips.

He is providing a digital service. What on earth makes you think he knows anything about marketing offline? That is why he is asking.

Aaah.... I read "offline" as in the current nomenclature of helping offline businesses with their web marketing.

        My apologies.

I'd use twitter- I know a few people in that niche who build up relationships with locals
I'd also offer a free session under each section to the type of client you want
and I'd go meet all the other people in your type of business- and build a relationship with them

These are some of the sources I use for my prospecting list:

    Walk & Talk
    Friends/Family
    Businesses You Use
    Cold-call

    Referrals
    Previous Clients
Related, but Non-Competitor Businesses (e.g. web designers)
    JV

    YellowPages/Yellowpages.com
Display Ads (shows they're spending some money)
    Ads w/Website

    Google
Page 2-3 listings for local searches

    Public Notices
    Fictitious Business Names
    New Business Licenses

    Newspaper
    Ads
    Articles
    Press Releases

    Received Mail
    Post Cards
    Card Decks
    Inserts/Flyers
    Pennysaver (display ads)

    Networking
    Chamber of Commerce
    BNI
    Special Interest Groups e.g. Realtors

Classified Ads - Post and/or Respond
    Craigslist
    Kijiji
    Backpage

I generally do a little research and send the prospects I'm interested in working with a personalized letter but I have done a more shotgun approach with postcards and have cold-called on occasion.

Volunteering your services is a great way to get testimonials and potential referrals: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ge-places.html - and it feels good too.

    RADIO!

Become the local radio expert in photography. PEOPLE alwways want to know about photography. How-to shoot great Christmas Card photos, What to expect from a wedding photographer.

Make a list of all the questions your clients have ever asked you and then pitch a segment to local radio and TV stations.

I have a radio show and I have done a similar "Ask the expert" topic before. You would be amazed what kinds of questions people come up with.

Just thought I would add my 2 cents here.

      - I would seriously recommend spending lots of time at 2 places... Facebook and Myspace!

      - Social networking is the best way for a business like yours to really interact and market your business utilizing the internet.

      - Google is even transforming it's search engine to really put more emphasis on the whole social networking aspect of local online/offline marketing.

      - Get in touch with local bands and businesses (you'll find more credibility with businesses on facebook) become friends with them and start relationships with them

      - Make videos and put them all over your facebook/myspace page...make examples for the markets/industries you are targeting

      - Use viral marketing sites like youtube to market your business using your own video/digital media skills

      - Find all of the local online directories for your area and get listed

      - Someone mentioned using the phonebook earlier....graduate from the phone book and use yellowpages.com to really target specific niches that you think would need your services and start making calls, emailing, and sending them mailers...etc

      - Network at places like your local toastmasters and camber of commerce....there you can meet and greet with the owners and decision makers of local businesses

      - Get a blog with your website and give away lots of information on how what you do could help business...etc.

      - If you go to a church...it's a very good place to network (even churches need your services) also you could get your church to recommend your services to people who are planning on having weddings at their church (you could even get creative and design them a pamphlet that you could advertise your business on for free and help them get other companies in the wedding business to advertise on...which will help the church make money!)

      - Partner with a wedding planner or wedding singer/band (even do some work for them )

      - Talk with local area band venues and have the put your cards out....or even pay them to advertise your business in their venue.

      - Sponsor a battle of the bands event at a local venue

      - Hold a free seminar/webinar or some sort of event in your area on "planning a dream wedding on a recession budget"

There are many more ideas out there...you just have to get creative...hopefully this list of ideas really sparks your creative side because judging by your profession I can take a pretty good guess that you are a very creative individual. Because being creative and having the ability to see what you're marketing from your potential buyers presepctive....is really the core of marketing.

      *Cheers*

Matt, if you are aiming purely at providing video services to brick-and-mortar businesses, you may want to consider creating relationships with companies that do provide actual marketing services - ad agencies, local TV and cable affiliates, theaters that offer pre-show ads on their screens, etc.

Here is a easy way to get business for weddings.

When people get married they usually rent a big building or hall for the reception.

All you need to do is contact the owners of the halls that people rent. Tell them to give you the names and you will do all the work and you will cut them in on the fee you get.

The halls are rented out for a lot of different events. Family reunions, graduations, all sorts of things.

So if you contact the owners and work out a deal you should be able to get all kinds of repeat business.

    Hope this helps,
    Terry

P.S. Let us know how it works out for you.

      Hi All,

Just an update. I have taken some of your advice, as well as some I found elsewhere, and I decided that my partner and I would basically go through the local phone book and cold call people. As much as I hate cold calling people, I must say it works. We scored two jobs in the first day, also, one of the people we talked to got up hooked up with a firm that outsources all of their video work. Hopefully this is just the tip of the iceberg. I will keep you informed.

Re: cold calling. When I am cold called, the 1st question I ask is why are they are cold calling then I ask if they are aware of what year it is. Lol.

Things worked out well with me by establishing partnerships with local web designers. A few of them were actually excited to meet me. I wasn't competing with them, and we could help each other (of course I offer a commission on referrals too).

In terms of video marketing, whenever I'd book a free consultation with a client, I would go in there with a quick and dirty video I had created to show them what I could do. This really seemed to help as people were like "cool, that's my business on youtube!".

If this was said I apologize.

Always think Joint Venture when starting out.

You need to build Know, Like and Trust fast.

You need to use another business that already has it with
      your target prospect.

So just thinking about weddings who has what you need?

      Jeweler
      Florist
      Catering company
      Music company
      Wedding invitation printer
      Wedding Planner
      Dress shop
      Tux rental
      Limo companies
      Hall rental
      Travel agents
      Bridal registries
Court house, public record of marriage lic.
      Local newspaper for engagement announcement.
      Photographers that don't do video.

I'll bet some of these will take a referral fee.

      Good luck
